checking your measurements are right after drafting

have any of you drafted something to your measurements
and then when you 'checked' it afterwards
(measuring between the darts to check that it was still your measurement)
, did you get a different number?

for example i drafted a bodice
and the waist should be 31.25
but after drafting, i checked it ..and it ended up being 27.1 cm

Is there a way to fix this or I have to redraw everything?
It is missing 4.15 cm
so I was thinking of dividing this into the spaces between the darts
each space I would add 1.0375 cm somehow

(1.0375 x 4 spaces = 4.15 cm)

^^ No don't do that. Your darts seem too big. Wait I think that's how you explained them. How many darts do you have? Divide the amount evenly among the darts that are running to the waistline. Redraw the new locations to the dart point. Check again. I think it should be okay. The darts have to be smaller than they were before.

Thanks ! When we draft our patterns in class using made-up measurements I always got the checking part right so I didn't know what to do if they didn't meet up

a lot of odd things happen.. i'm on holiday now and won't have patternmaking classes again till late january.. to ask for help

i'm almost done checking my measurements
i just have one more question..
i have checked several books on flat patterns and altering patterns but can't find any info.

now my waist is larger than it should be, so i am making the darts larger.
my question is, when i alter a dart, can i only alter one side? because when we were making skirts, my instructor said there are darts where only one side can be altered (the side furthest away from the center front/center back). i cannot remember her reasoning, but i think it has to do with keeping the princess seam line.

on this bodice there is the princess seam line. the side of the dart closest to the center front is to not be altered. is this true?
therefore if i am to add 1 cm to each dart, i will add 1 cm to the side seam and center seam, so what will i do with the princess line dart? 2 cm for the one side?

never mind about that now. i'm just going to move the side seam instead of the dart this time

Dear sewing experts, is it possible to alter drop-crotch pants to a normal rise, or would it ruin the overall fit? They are fairly loose-fitting pants, if it makes a difference.

And could someone please come up with a better term than drop-crotch? Sheesh.

i don't know since i've never tried it ^
but this is a very good book for altering patterns.. i have been using it to alter my shirts and it's working very well --also simple and easy to understand.
you will probably need to find a new closure for the pants.. like a new zipper? if it has a zipper closure

No zipper, the design is a bit like sweatpants, but with a crisper, less casual fabric. I won't attempt this on my own, as my sewing skills aren't advanced enough for trousers. I was just wondering whether it's worth taking them to a tailor or not.

i'm attempting to recreate this dress from vintageous.com but i'm not sure how i would go about getting the tulle to gather and reach the bow. any suggestions?

well, i'm using this pattern and i was planning on altering it to make it a bubble hem, then do the top layer of tulle on top.. but with the tulle gathering at the bottom and going up, i'm just not sure how i'd approach it. so, i'll probably go on and find something simpler for my occasion.

how about making two pieces?

one for the "bra"
and one for the long skirt

you attach both to the bow

it might even be 3 pieces.
the bra, the dress,
and then this extra panel of tulle coming from the bra and passing through the bow
