Peter Dundas Exits Roberto Cavalli Group

I am happy because I did not like the new Cavalli

Hopefully he can come back to Pucci
He made Pucci big ... loved his Pucci designs/shows!

They've laid off more than 200 employees.
As for Dundas, I've never really liked Cavalli so his work for me was as bad as the previous.

Cannot wait for Dundas' thoughts on this entire affair. Somewhere in that article I read 'iconic' which I imagine in suit terms meant safe, no risks. Maybe they wanted a formulaic approach, and Dundas wouldn't have any of it?
And the fact that Ferraris is credited with Versace's overhaul gives us somewhat of an idea of what to expect. I feel sad for both Dundas and the 200 employees who's about to get sacked, but I'm sure the former will bounce back. Whoever they have in mind to succeed him better gird their loins, they're about to get immensely moderated, I imagine.

yeah cavalli hasn't really been "hot" since 2011/12 i actually liked the collection from september a lot that was good but i think that the brand was a sinking ship before and he couldn't rescue - it needed a bigger revamp really

The industry really is intent on watching itself implode, isn't it?

Did Dundas light Cavalli on fire right off the bat? No. But then, his Pucci stint took a few seasons to really grab a wide swathe of attention as well. Oh sure, there was the fashion press who followed him from Ungaro and there was that small niche of fans who knew him as well, but Pucci on the scale of what it became didn't just happen overnight. It took a moment to really boil.

And frankly, who the hell would even want to head up Cavalli? It's a house that's been sort of stagnating for a number of years, and the only reason it got the attention it did when Dundas took over was a) because he was much beloved at Pucci and b) Dundas has history with the house. Now knowing just how unrealistic and desperate the company is viewing things, what designer in their right mind would want to take over a label that's at once disorganized and mostly irrelevant?

Anyway, I hope Peter lands somewhere that deserves him. He's damn good at what he does and this fashion world is sorely lacking without his brand of flashy fun.

Wow, i'm shook.
Peter was perfect for Cavalli but he was kinda disappointing. But god, that was really fast. Hopefully good things comes to him.

Peter Dundas did perfect Pucci, now Pucci is irrelevant, Giorgetti simply "killed" the brand.
Dundas Cavalli was horrible. Years ago Cavalli was a must have, italian jetset, it-girls and summer parties in Billionare Club in Porto Cervo. But it was more that 15 years ago.
Roberto Cavalli was irrelevant yet and Dundas, instead to Revival the brand, made a horrible collections. I was sure he will make a perfect Job but what did we see? His first collection was ugly. Second not better but not every designer can repeat success of Slimane's SL, Michele's Gucci and,ok, Demna's Balenciaga.

what i read is that they couldn't afford him...
or any "star" designer...

they've got to cut costs cause they are way way way in the red and have to focus on just staying in business, not getting press coverage...

it's got to be pretty tense in that company right about now...

i don't know if it's even worth saving, to be honest...
cavalli is retired...
let it go- his era has passed...

Roberto Cavalli Employees Take Action
by KATIE BERRINGTON

LAST week, the announcement of Peter Dundas's departure from Roberto Cavalli was swiftly followed by a statement by the brand saying that it is set to undergo a dramatic restructure (including a cut of almost 30 per cent of its workforce), news of which has been met with upset and the threat of action from employees.

An eight-hour strike was staged by workers on Friday, according to WWD, and they are reported to have scheduled an imminent meeting with local politicians and institutions in Osmannoro, near the company's Florence base.

The reorganisation - which the brand's new CEO, Gian Giacomo Ferraris, hopes will return it to profitability by 2018 - encompasses the closing of the company's corporate and design offices in Milan and moving all functions to its headquarters in Florence. It will also shut or relocate stores in underperforming areas.

"The workers are distraught. They are told that there is a centralisation in Florence but in reality they fear a downsizing of strategic functions also at the Florence headquarters,” said Bernardo Marasco, a representative of the workers’ union Filctem Cgil Florence, of the drastic shake-up. “We are waiting for the start of the mobility procedure to know the number of potential layoffs. As for us, there is a battle to do and we will do it to defend jobs and the brand on the territory. Mobilisation is the response to the company’s plans.”

It is not the first time that workers at Roberto Cavalli have taken action against their employers - in November 2015, more than 200 employees of its Tuscany factory took to the streets in Florence in an act of protest against the company’s decision to open a mobility procedure to cut 66 employees.

Following the news of the reorganisation last week, Ferraris explained his plans to turnaround Roberto Cavalli.

“In this environment, only iconic brands with a coherent business model and an efficient organisation can survive," he said, highlighting that the company is not in debt and estimating this year's sales will come in between 155 million and 160 million euros. "After my initial examination of the company, I believe the Cavalli brand has what it takes to succeed. But the reality is that the company’s costs must be in line with its revenues and that is the task we now have to embark upon.”

Well, isn't this turning out to be quite the ugly mess as well.
