Photoshop for fashion yay or nay

I've never owned photoshop, so I can't compare, but does anyone know if 'Gimp' is almost as good?(for those who've used both):flower:

btw: I'd love to own photoshop, but I do agree that it's abused...now, more than ever.

^i've looked at the Gimp website.. and gosh, it's confusing --how do you download that thing
There seem to be so many files you need to get
It's not all in one file

I remember hearing Gimp is not at all equal to Photoshop
Photoshop has many effects and things you can do that you can't do at Gimp
Gimp is basic, I think
but it's useful for doing basic things, like cropping, resizing images, etc.

^^ I've just recently downloaded it, but have yet to use it. I've heard that it's pretty good considering it's price tag (free). ;)

I actually downloaded it from download.com and have had no problems (as of yet..) We'll see how it goes..

Photoshop is just an expensive pencil case. There's nothing wrong with using it. Just use it properly. When I first started 13 years ago I made an awful bunch of rubbish. Now I lecture Photoshop and Illustrator at a fashion college.

Re: using filters. I would say from experience that most filters are a waste of time. The best way to retouch images is to use the main tools. The rubber stamp tool is pretty much all you need. Just remember to use the opacity and brush hardness sliders. And learn how to use the pen tool to make really good selections when editing.
