Has anyone here ever tried piercing themselves??? If so...

1)where??
2)did it hurt?
3)how did you do it.

Ive got my ears pierced,i used to have them pierced twice, but i took the second one out.But i want it back in now, there is still a whole there but i tried pokin a stuf through it earlier and the hole at the back is closed virtually.I really want it done agen, wud i be able to do it myself without a lot of pain??

Yep, I pierced a second hole in my ear myself. Did it hurt? Honestly....yes. But you are sticking a needle through your ear, so you can never expect it to be painless. However, it didn't hurt as much as I thought it would. It felt kind of warm and stung a bit. The first thing I did was mark where I would pierce with a marker because I didn't want to make them uneven and have to pierce them again. Then I took a needle (make sure it's not too thin) and jabbed it through (you have to push it pretty hard). Then I pulled the needle out and stuck in an earring. Also, use ice to numb your ears beforehand and sterilize the needle in alcohol.

but because my ear has stil got the hole from before will i still have to poke a needle through just to open it up a bit more?? or just jam the earring through.

EDIT: We havnt got no sterilized strips or anythin like that but my dad said you can use boiling water with salt, would that be ok??

hmmm I would use a needle. It will probably be less painful honestly. But, it depends how open they still are.

Good grief, don't pierce yourself. Save up the money and go to a proper piercer. NOT the shopgirl with the staple-gun at Claire's, but a real piercer, frequently sharing office space with a tattoist. Reputable piercers only work with sterile tools and the highest quality hypoallergenic jewelry, so you run much less risk of infection or chronic irritation. Plus piercers have to undergo a considerable apprenticeship, and you will be certain of getting a straight, well-balanced piercing which will not grow shut.

Proper piercers use a small, hollow needle which actually cuts a tiny hole in your ear (or wherever else) and this eliminates the problem you are describing of the hole healing shut. Piercings done with a sewing needle frequently don't heal all the way, or are simply too small, and when there is not an earring holding it open, it re-adheres. A properly pierced hole forms a perfect little ring of scar tissue inside that is unlikely to grow shut once it is healed.

I promise you it is money well spent. It doesn't really cost that much for a professional piercer to do the piercings, especially not on something so straightforward as an earlobe, and you will end up with nice, trouble-free piercings.

One more thing: You cannot possibly get the needle truly sterile, and if you don't get a good clean piercing (which you know is just a very small puncture wound) you can get a very serious infection. Read this story about a girl who pierced her own bellybutton, then didn't take adequate care of it.

yeah i see your point, but the hole is still there and it is still open at the front, its just the back that has closed up.So i cant see how it would go wonky or anythin.really its just a matter of putting the needle through the hole to make the hole bigger isnt it?? i cant really see a complication in my point of view

Well, there's the likelihood that it will keep on growing back closed any time you don't wear earrings for a while. That's why I advocate just getting it done professionally and being done with it.

Also, I promise it will hurt less. It goes really fast, and there;s less trauma. Sticking a needle through your earlobe involves a lot of pressure and stretching and it is essentially a blunt trauma which goes all the way through, while a hollow piercing needle goes through with much less effort and makes a clean cut.

ouch i'm getting pains reading this thread  I wouldn't pierce it myself, for the price of a good piercer it's not that much

yeah i guess your right, and we have P.E at skool on monday so id have to take it out then... i suppose i'll hav to wait...y did i take it out in the first place (angry)

i have many piercings in my ears and i like to try different combinations and so some holes tend to close up. and i have done the jab the earing back through thing! i would say it hurts less than getting it actually done, but then again i have quite a high pain threshold!

so in answer to your question yes it is possible. but you would have to treat them with care as if they where newly pierced. and boiling a kettle and mixing the water with salt does help to seteralise and clean things. because piercers sometimes recomend this for cleaning new piercings.

but if you are unsure then i wouldnt recomend you doing it. just go and get them redone again:flower:

Honestly, I don't think you need to go to a professional piercing salon to get it done. Any other body part and I'd say yes...but for ears, you can do them yourself.

I just felt weird reading this thread.

I got my ears properly/professionally pierced when I was young, about 10 then. There were long periods when I went without earrings and my ear holes never sealed. Plus, I never had any infections/problems like that.

So I guess it's best to get them pierced professionally, saves you a lot of pain and trouble :flower:

Actually, I had the same, i pierced my ears twice and then put out the 2nd. Then I growed together in the back. but I'm brave and I pushed back the medical earring. It was pain, blood, but it could get better. I didn't have problems with it, like yellow stuuf coming out and so on, but it was quite painful for a while. And now again I put it out and it grew together completely.

Yo! Not a good idea to pierce yourself - especially if you're going to have to take it out in the near future. When the time is right, and you can leave it in for a bit, got to a professional - yes, the scary guy at the tattoo parlor :P

Actually, I will have to disagree with Asyoulikeit about how the ins and outs of the piercing actually work. Yesm the piercers will use a hollow needle, but it is actually IS still piercing a hole in your ear and not cutting out a small bit. The needle is tapered towards the end and your piercer simply sticks the jewelry in the hollow end which is slightly fuller. The jewelry is only VERY slightly tinier than the hole in your ear...which is why it heals better..less room for infection. The problem is not actually the hole being too small will a sewing needle, but actually being too large. if you compare the 20 gauge of your average earring to your average sewing needle...you'll probably find that the sewing needle to be much larger.

Ouch! I know a lot of people who have done it and although ive never really heard anything bad about it...it still sounds painful and unsafe!
