Plaid Flannel / Buffalo Check

i'm wearing flannel plaid shirts at home but its not a 'look' i could pull out off the house.. still, i can see those getting quite hot and the work-wear link is obviously rising, but when done by designers (see Mark jacobs) it seems to be plaid on a quite more 'refined' fabric than plain flannel (to justify the price range)

(should we change the topic title to Plaid?
flannel for me its more a fabric consturction definition than a pattern discription..)

...Flannel is typically associated with traditional American workwear and the working classes (think woodsman jackets…), and has been appropriated, for this very reason, by the grunge movement of the early 90s. This makes it a fabric with a history very similar to denim, another trad. American workwear material...

I agree with this, and the extension or analogy that makes it suitable for interpretation by designers. I would like to see the EG shirt. Good topic!

I also agree with Lena and others, flannel is a fabric, not necessarily in plaid, and I am changing the thread title accordingly. :flower:

I have a few plaid shirts made out of flannel..... very comfy.... but instead of wearing it in that 'grungy' way, I like layering them underneath girly dresses - makes for a good contrast.

I'd really like to see how you wear them underneath, seems pretty unusual to me and might look pretty good, especially since (again from the what are you wearing thread) you're quite talented at finding interesting layering effects.

Good call on the change, sound a lot clearer that way.

I dislike a load of things/looks too but I don’t assume it’s “not fashion”, fashion being hard enough to define as it is.

i guess i have my own definition of what is or is not fashion...
it's how i have come to define it for myself...

it's strictly my point of view ...^_^

they seem to be already 'hot' >for guys< at the club scene in Paris

i guess those plaid shirts go well with the 'look, i'm not cool and i'm not trendy' attitude which is on the rise at the moment

This time, though, my hair is short. ;)

Im loving plaid flannel for girls right now. Just not in the grunge way it was done in the 90's. I just bought a mens one from goodwill lol.

This explains why Ive been gravitating to this ancient green plaid flannel PJ top I have...Ive actually considered wearing it out in public...

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

J. Crew is doing a lot of plaid this year (yes... even more than they usually do). But of course it's more preppy than grunge.
