Poisoned Femininity F/W 08.09

I think it's intresting this is being called a "trend" because i feel like it's so much more than that. trends come and go... but political statements like these last forever. I love this thread. IMO this would fit well too:
Vera Wang FW 08/09

I loved this look! First, Freja is looking more androgynous than ever. Second, the top is really exuberant but the masculinty from the pants really tone it down. I thought the fur and the boots were nice touches as well. Basically, any woman who would wear this would like like a broad not to be messed with.

Nice addition with the V. Wang. I'm looking forward to some potential candidates from London next. :flower:

What about for men the demasculinity at Prada? I feel like that is a bit cynical in the same way but the men's version. It's like feminine details to punish men. With shirts buttoning in the back, pants with no fly, the little tutu-esque things, those bikini type things, etc. I don't know if it's relevant to this thread but it definitely seems like some poisoned femmes dressed these men.

Next to Rodarte, this captures the essence of bruised beauty & poisoned feminity best! I was very happy with Giles' collection. :woot:

Here it's making its way imo to the Resort collections...
maybe we will see it in for spring also

garden flowers and their inevitable death in melting sticky black tar...

Yay! I wanted to finish updating this thread, but became too busy to do so. That's the irony of working in fashion...no time left to discuss it.

Alex White is great at this type of styling.

I noticed this phrase in your blog Shirleebee and liked it. also "post-apocalyptic but expensive", something to think about.

I was thinking about it in terms of "broken dolls"...

i love the title, so exotic

i do love the poisoned/decadent femininity. but as a general trend, it seems like men and women are getting tired of their initial sex appeal and have to exchange with one another in some ways. the mood is definitely dark and not so nice for women and softer and ethereal for men.

how is this different than neo goth really?...
christina ricci is the poster child for that as well...
and it seems pretty much the same thing from what you guys are describing..

:P

anyway..
i really like what you wrote in your first post shirleebee...:flower:...
'eschew' is a good word...^_^...

To me it's quite different (and I agree with Spike about the great title ^_^). With neoGothic, you have eccentric innocence in a dark world (like Jane Eyre as you mention). What's different about this is the damage and the danger. I have no problem doing neoGothic, but this poisoned stuff is not me  That's why I'm sure they're different

PS To me the Vera above fits this theme only because of the hair & makeup ...

like an autumnal bouquet of rich sanguine

Really? I posted it because I thought the outfit itself was critiquing traditional views of femininity. Sure it's flashy, but the pants are very androgynous to me. I feel like the upper half of Freja is feminine and the lower half is masculine. idk...

Love it... I think it's a very refreshing trend :crush: I hope it carries on and trickles down to mass market... idk I think it would be a nice change to all the cr*p we're seeing these days... ugh

I agree with that ... but bringing a little masculinity into the mix isn't poison, is it?

Out of curiosity, how do you guys feel that Margiela's and Pilati's experiments with the erasure of identity and - especially - femininity in form relate to this poisoned trend? I find it all so morbidly fascinating.:P
