Prabal Gurung S/S 2012 New York

The references to all the other designers mentioned already are GLARING. This is a lot better than last season, BUT, honestly, this is one label that really has nothing to say or offer.

The first dress is like a mix of Givenchy (from Spring Haute Couture collection...specifically reminds me of the gown Florence Welch wore to the Grammys) and McQueen (the print that became one of his signature styles during his last few years).

To be honest, this brand offers not much other than red carpet-friendly dresses, and he couldn't even do that this time.

I see a mix of Givenchy, Versace & even some Christopher Kane. The collection itself is not bad, but the blatant plagiarism is what is so bothersome.

The first thing I thought was "Givenchy" when I saw the prints... and some of the cutouts remind me of Alexandre Vauthier HC Spring 2011.
Some dresses look nice, but a lot of them are really unflattering. Also the makeup is a big mess like last season's makeup.

i see nothing even remotely alluring with this collection, and each new collection just proves how derivative his designs are. if you're out to create unwearables then at least have the decency to make it look original; yet he still couldn't cut it

The cutouts are simply amazing... I cannot wait to see how this collection translates to real life and editorials...

This is pretty much a Givenchy rip off with Giles SS 2010 sunglasses.

This is Givenchy, Prada, Christopher Kane, S. McCartney, A. Mcqueen... everything mixed up.... Bad collection..

In 20 or 30 years when some hot to trot designer does an homage to Ricardo Tisci a collection like this will be ok. But since the ideas Gurung is ripping off are only a season or two old it's really just embarrassing. Who does he think he is fooling? Everyone it seems. And he'll probably get away with it.

I'm so disappointed in myself at how I underestimated him. Those cocktail dresses? Those blazers? That feathered jacket? It's all sublime! I thought his stuff was a bit mediocre during the past seasons, but I'm sold on him with this collection. Plus, it has such a gorgeous color palette. I've never been so much in love with purple until now. He sold me too based on that stunning opening dress. It all exudes so much chicness.

i sincerely hope cathy horyn will call him out on this, can't expect much from the other journalists

40s inspiration - Miu Miu
Cutout Dresses - Balenciaga
Color Palette - Givenchy

any other suggestions lol

I love the colors and the floral prints. It's very pretty but strong at the same time.

Seeing the collection up close there are definitely interesting pieces. However it reminds me of a good London fashion week mixture. Mary Kantrantzou and Christopher Kane.
