Hello everyone! I'm taking a short two week vacation to Prague and Bucharest this summer and I'm wondering what the best places to visit are. What good vintage stores, cafes, restaurants, bars, clubs, etc would you recommend? What tourist traps should I avoid? Where is a good place to mingle and chat with the locals? I'd have to resort to English in Prague but I can speak Romanian. I haven't found a thread on travel any Eastern European countries so all input would be very very much appreciated. Thanks! :flower:

that's cool that you're going to prague - i live here.

from clubs and lounges, what i heard from friends and stuff 'celnice' and 'm1' seem to be the best places to hang out with, it's mostly international people hanging out there...

cafes... personally i like coffeheaven the most, it's a polish cafe chain that is spread all over eastern europe apparently, for like food around old town me and my friends like to go to 'bohemia bagel', nothing too fancy but it's again one of those international community places and they have good bagels and stuff...

hope i was helpful :)

My dad went to Prague last week to visit the city and to attend some classical music concerts. I will ask about his experience. I wish I could have go with him, I heard that the city is very fairy-like :magic:
Here's something on Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prague

if you like classic architecture, you'll love prague... just walk walk walk and absorb the atmosphere, the city centre is crowded with tourists so if you want to enjoy it for yourself you set off early (7,8-ish AM), both banks of vltava are lovely, the cathedral is beautiful in the inside and i adore the old jewish town, its located near the old town square, just go along the pařížská (parisian) street and then turn left... such a dreamy place. um what else. the souvenirs suck

have a nice trip

Almost all the boutiques are on Pažížská street. The sights are near each other and the best way to travell is by metro.

Hey Shutterbug, I too am going to Prague this summer (might hit Vienna and Budapest too). What month are you going?

i'm only going by things i want to see but if you're into it you can, take a trip to kutna hora to see the famously, breathtakingly, fantastically macabre and surprisingly decadent sedlec osssuary or the bone church.

I was in Prague last year with some friends and went around hunting for David Cerny's sculptures. It was pretty fun. Our accommodation recommended Jarmark restaurant which serves good food and you get to pull your own beer!

Some of us went to Kutna Hora to see the ossuary, it was amazing but small. We also joined a day trip to Cesky Krumlov which I enjoyed myself very much and the town is very, very pretty! I have some pictures posted so you know what you would like to check out.
