ULI: I think it's a really strong collection. She stayed true to herself, but has created a varied, yet coherent set of looks.

LAURA: Again, I think Laura is great, and made a strong, Laura collection. Each look is different but is so well unified. And that last slate blue dress with the mustard belt is stunning.

JEFFERY: Too random. There isn't really a unified idea. I mean, what's with the red/ white polka dots, the green/ white stipe, and then the purple Japanese floral print? It's not coherent at all. If he had taken ONE of those prints (....the green stripe would be best) and ran with it, the collection would have been so much better.

MICHAEL: Hoochie heaven. What is this, the knock-off version of Baby Phat? Disappointing, Michael! You've made such lovely things on PR, why are you resorting to hoochie wear?

From the pictures above, I'd say that Uli or Laura should win... even though I prefer Jeffrey's aesthetic, his collection is rather inconsistent.

I'm always so disappointed with the PR runway shows -just shows what a huge leap there is from being a good designer in general (able to do the challenges) and actually creating a coherent and consistent collection.

Whilst I've liked pieces from all of these designers, I don't like any of the collections at all. Uli's prints aren't working well for me, and I hate that 'belt over the boob' shape. Laura's is probably the best -but it seems all over the place to me, united only by the use of black-and-white 'sophisticated' fabrics with odd feathers creating volume everywhere, which isn't enough to pull it together. Jeffrey's Balenciaga knock-off looks aren't bad, if unoriginal and a little 'Topshop', but the scrappy dresses don't work. Michael's is just trashy, cheap looking and very unflattering (and I loved him!).

Why do you think the final shows on PR are so amateurish? Is it just that the designers aren't skilled enough? Or is it something else?

On Project Catwalk (UK) they allowed the designers to spend some of the money they were given for their final shows on hiring professional patternmakers and dressmakers to make the pieces up from their designs (as designers would usually do), and the two designers who did that produced much better collections, imho, than I've seen from anyone from Project Runway.

I can't understand everybody's obsession with Jeffrey's collection ... I think it looks so, so "Forever 21." The one exception is that I do like the green and white striped blazer, but not the dress. You call Michael's collection over-the-top? So is Jeffrey's!

I am also disappointed with Michael's collection, not because it's ghetto-fabulous per se but rather because the shapes and cuts are all unflattering, and usually Michael knows how to flatter a woman's body so well.

Laura's was classy and elegant on the whole, but I think there were a couple of details on some of the pieces that just threw them off a bit. Like a bow in the wrong place or a feather ... some pieces just looked a little awkward.

I acutally love Uli's entire collection, with the exception maybe of her swimwear. I agree that Uli being Uli is a positive ... she's confident in what she likes, what she does best, and what she wants to do and hasn't let the judges cut her confidence down. I think her flowy, soft forms are so feminine, and any woman can look beautiful in them. I think she's very underestimated.

Why do they look so ammateurish? Well, for starters, they are given only eight grand for a collection. Then, they are required to complete the whole thing in about 4-6 weeks. These collections are still PR challenges. Anyone who thinks that eight grand, six weeks, and little to no help from anyone is how to get a propper collection off the ground is clueless.

Exactry. I totally agree with. I think he's not kind of person who works for high fashion. and that's it about him.
Uli or Laura are possible to be work for high fashion, but soooo many similler taste designer in NY fashion world. So why they still need them? I'd like to know if someone can explain about.

I still think about Michael will win, because he has a huge fashion sauce in himself, that's why you guys are surprised what his final expression. He just want show up where he came from and loves his background. All clothing will fit to black woman very well and those mekes rich and elegant them. Think about if Nazri wears to all his collection like she does always. Model makes some looks defferent, so that's only I worry about him.

I just think judges are always care about some point of view.
*Looks cheep...specific fabric choice.
*Looks old...plain and boring=doubt to taste level.
*Looks too you...they repeated to see similler design.

Those kind of judges mede looser whole episode.

I think the judges are afraid of anything avant garde or what they see as 'vulger'. Could explain why some of the designs are so boring.

I rather liked Jeffrey's actually.

Michael's looked alot like his "Foxie Brown" outfit but over and over and over.

I suppose I like Laura's the best. Everyone else's seems a bit on the tacky side.

I'm voting for Laura. Her collection is so New York-ish and sophisticated. Kind of a cross between Oscar de la Renta and Yves Saint Laurent?
Uli is number two. I don't like any of her standard "Uli" dresses (the drapey ones with the prints) except for the strapless one, but the rest of the collections is great. It's very minimal and stylish.
I was really thinking Michael should win earlier in the season, but it's much too sexy. The orange shirtdress and the looks in white are nice, but as a whole, it's too trashy.
Jeffrey gets props for his use of the green and white striped fabric....But that's it. Whoever said it was right-it is rather "Forever 21".

I ITA..

I think Micheal collection is a bit of let down only because for the most part his runway challenge have been really good. So the expectations are high for him. I must admit that I didn't like this collection at first but the more I am seeing it the more I am getting his point of View. I am tired of it being called Ghetto.. it just a different point of view then what we are used to seeing in fashion. That being said I think Laura will win.

Jeffery's collection is to girly for me.. the pink-polka dots reminds me of preteen girl. His collection is not edgjy(sp) (as Michael's is) enough and for some reason I feel like this collection is not what he is about like it tone(sp) down. All of the other designers pretty much remained true to themselves.

Uli, I like some of her pieces(BTW the Daily News today cover was ULi dress worn by Narzi(sp)) but I still don't see growth.

Out of all these designers I would most likely wear a Micheal piece followed by Laura.

Ditto
and
Ditto on the 2nd count :bunny:

Why are people criticizing Laura's collection for being too old and not young and fresh? Young people aren't the only ones who buy clothing.

Some of Uli's glittery looks remind me of Dolce & Gabbana's Fall 2005 collection.

Speculations from the Gothamist:

So, like the lunatic Gothamist tends to be about things, we've been studying photographs on Getty Images and reading posts on Blogging Project Runway. The biggest observation is that Uli's Project Runway model is Nazri - while Clarissa (who modeled mostly for Angela) walked for Michael. There are two hypotheses: (1) Uli wins the next challenge and chooses Nazri; when Michael chooses a model, he picks Clarissa; or (2) Michael is eliminated (NOOOO!).

They've showed actual moving video of the collection on the Style channel and it kind of changed my mind a little. Michael's collection did not photograph well at all but in motion, its charming and still has the same confidence his work had on the show. Kara Saun offered commentary and suggested that the judges will be encouraged by the designers that offered up something different than what they showed during the challenges and gave her nod to Michael. Laura, who I liked most I began to like least. Jeff is probably the strongest contender, he's dressing the woman who dresses for other women; Michael's stuff is all about a man's gaze...
