I completely agree - has anyone seen the new VH1 reality show titled, "I Know My Kid's a Star?" It's just like that! Kids are put into situations they shouldn't be put into, and yet VH1 promotes it. Obviously it's to increase ratings and to have a few people laugh about it, but when it gets down to it, I feel bad for these kids and I know a lot of people are offended they would put them on the air :(
 
I loved playing with my mum's clothes when I was wee.
Although they were gadgy 90s clothes hah
 
Haha, I used to walk around in my dad's clothes when I was a kid, but that was only because I was curious what I would look like as an adult. These kids are being rushed into adulthood wayyyyy too fast.

^ Anything that makes you use some protection is a good thing. I'm not offended to be honest. And if you're blatantly not using any, with perfect strangers then yeah, you are a dirty pig male or female!

And the nuns drawing...well the Catholic League is who puts up a stink over anything that even mentions religion. It's basically one guy that stirs up controversy about everything; I even got a letter in grade school from them to take home about not watching a Disney movie because it was somehow offensive, lol. They are ridiculous, they objected to a sculpture of Jesus just because it was made from chocolate! As if chocolate is offensive.

Most things I see today with people being offended is just a perversion of "political correctness" and a defeat of common sense.

I was taken aback the first time I saw it, I mean, they don't mention Hitler by name - and it could be argued that a lot of the symbols are from a period in German history before that time - but I wonder if the average British person is going to be aware of that. Are people are going to watch this, hear Wagner and think it's a comedy based on the Third Reich?

I can see that the point of the ad is to reinforce the idea that a French car can have the renowned excellence of German design, so the twist works - but at what cost?
 
I get what you mean, but when I see the commercial I don't see it.

The distillers of Sweden's Absolut vodka have withdrawn an advertisement run in Mexico that angered many U.S. citizens by idealizing an early 19th century map showing chunks of the United States as Mexican.
The billboard ad has the slogan "In an Absolut World" slapped over a pre-1848 map showing California, Arizona and other U.S. states as Mexican territory. Those states were carved out of what had been Mexican lands until that year.
Although it was not shown in the United States, U.S. media outlets picked up on the ad, and after a barrage of complaints, Absolut's maker said on Sunday the ad campaign would cease.
Defending the campaign last week, Absolut maker Vin & Spirit said the ad was created "with a Mexican sensibility" and was not meant for the U.S. market.
"In no way was this meant to offend or disparage, nor does it advocate an altering of borders, nor does it lend support to any anti-American sentiment, nor does it reflect immigration issues," a spokeswoman wrote on Absolut's Web site.
"Instead, it hearkens to a time which the population of Mexico may feel was more ideal," she wrote.
Absolut's blog cite has received more than a thousand comments since the ad campaign was launched a few weeks ago, with many calling for boycotts of the Swedish company.
"I have poured the remainder of my Absolut bottles down the sink," one blogger wrote.
A war between Mexico and the United States from 1846 to 1848 started with Mexico's refusal to recognize the U.S. annexation of Texas and ended with the occupation of Mexico City by U.S. troops.
At the end, Mexico ceded nearly half of its territory to the United States, forming the states of California, Nevada, Utah and parts of Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and Wyoming.
Mexicans remain sensitive about the loss and the location of the border. At the same time, the United States is fortifying barriers to keep out undocumented Mexican migrants.
Some Mexicans use the term "Reconquista" (reconquest) to refer to the growing presence in California of Mexican migrants and their descendants.
France's Pernod Ricard is taking over Absolut vodka, one of the world's top-selling spirit brands, after buying Vin & Spirit from the Swedish government at the end of March.

Thats the thing - in the days of the internet, you can't really have a one-country-only advert, because it can be posted up for the world to see. And what's acceptable in one place can seem highly contentious to another.

This has been on my mind ever since someone, in the mag forum, posted a US GQ cover from 1995 of Jessica Simpson giving the victory V sign while wearing a stars-and-stripes bikini and combat-print shorts. The visual combination of the national flag and military wear is a positive image in some places, but in my own country, it wouldn't happen in any official publication, such displays might even incur the law, and are certainly offensive to large parts of the population. What's a simple image in one place can say complicated things in another.

#875 - France, as I understand it, is a really anti-semitic country. It doesn't surprise me that no one in charge of marketing might of had a problem with it because of France;s history with jews.

#877 - i think it's a funny ad. and i wonder if the people who are offended by it know a lot about u.s. history?

i don't think a lot of people would. typically when you watch television - do people you're with pay attention to the commercials? not usually. i would think that only those persons who are truly informed might take a second look or think about it critically - but probably because they may already have an opinion about the Citroen brand.

i actually think it is humorous...but in the current political climate in the U.S. illegal immigration is a big issue because it impacts the economy, the culture, and the ethnic diversity (if you will...) of the demographic. i see it almost retrospectively - this is what that landmass was populated by during a certain era, and in truth, it's probably where it's headed now.

I think the ad is silly, I don't find it particularly amusing, but it's not offensive either. However, the Trojan one is funny. I still don't understand why it caused so much controversy.

Honestly, as much as I love the US, too many people here are too ridiculous for words. If that Absolut add should be boycotted than so should American history classes. :lol:

Was the first one addressed to me? Because I was being facetious :p If the land was owed to anyone, it would be the natives and the Mexican government has just as bad of a track record as the US in that respect which is why I think it's ridiculous to imply that the Mexican government is "owed" anything :flower:

Haha, that was a long explanation, but either way, the ad is silly and I don't care if it's boycotted or not.
