Rachel Comey S/S 10 New York

her collections never seem to emote anything from me, good or bad.

Style.com review and two unposted outfit from the collection.

St. Vincent performed covers throughout Rachel Comey's rooftop show, with mop-topped singer Annie Clark looking every inch the designer's ideal woman. You know, a clog-loving type with what Comey likes to call "artistic sensibilities." For Clark and co. there were button-back cardigans, cheery prints, and multipurpose pieces like a taffeta anorak blazer with removable pockets and a hidden hood—not to mention lots of the quirky (and this season, somewhat boyish) footwear that the designer is known for. (We spotted quite a few Comey shoes in the crowd.)

Inspired by coastal Maine, where she vacations, the designer had functionality and an active element in mind. That might explain the plethora of skorts—in all sorts of variations—that dominated the show and made it feel, at times, repetitive and in need of further editing. Still, there were plenty of covetable daytime separates, some with a vaguely fifties camping feel. Comey was cheered on by the sun, which obligingly came out halfway through her alfresco affair—though a trio of smart raincoats demonstrated that she was prepared for any contingency.

Mee tooo. I'm glad it's not only me who feels that. It feels like it's a little bit of this, a little bit of that, but nothing that really resonates.

^completely agree cicciolina.

and i agree too lucky. at least in the last three years anyway. she used to do such nice things.

I love the little dresses! The colors might be more suitable for fall, however.

I am kind of totally obsessed with certain pieces in this collection... I need to get my hands on them for spring/summer.

god what's happened to rachel?! i don't like this at all. it's all over the place and not very cohesive. she used to be so good and strong.

gotta agree, I don't really hate it I just don't know what to think

It looks very Urban Outfitters which is a shame b/c Rachel was one of the few fresh voices in NYC... I really do miss those interesting prints and adorable shapes she used to do so well... this new stuff is so bad and trite... totally not worth her time...

I like it. her prints and shapes always put me in a good mood. sadly, i know this type of stuff will show up at Urban Outfitters within a month.

It's all so casual and kinda looks like it could be from a thrift store, but so put-together and chic too.

as tim gunn would say, "it lacks refinement."

That's a pretty quick judgement, keeping in mind that Rachel's target customer is way more 'downtown' and at a lower entry price point level than other mainline collections. I think the collection she presented here perfectly showed that and I'm thinking it's nice and good at that. No need to search for the luxury level in these clothes, they are solid, day-to-day wearable pieces.

To me it's still lightyears more original and authentic than Marc by Marc Jacobs, who, yes, might have the polish, but not the originality besides the obvious 'thrift shop re-styled' worth.

honestly, much of this collection looks directly lifted from the faux-vintage stylings of your average brooklyn denizen. it's not even a fresh take....
