Netflix announced that Ryan Murphy‘s new drama series, inspired by the diabolical Nurse Ratched, will premiere September 18. Based on the 1962 novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey, the series is set to star Sarah Paulson in a leading role, as Nurse Mildred Ratched, while the likes of Judy Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Sharon Stone are starring.

The story is set 20 years prior to the events of the book and classic film starring Jack Nicholson. It is described as an origins story, which follows Ratched’s journey and evolution from nurse to full-fledged monster. The series will track her murderous progression through the mental health care system.

The cast includes: Sarah Paulson as Nurse Mildred Ratched, Jon Jon Briones as Dr. Richard Hanover, Finn Wittrock as Edmund Tolleson, Charlie Carver as Huck Finnigan, Judy Davis as Nurse Betsy Bucket, Cynthia Nixon as Gwendolyn Briggs, Amanda Plummer as Louise, Corey Stoll as Charles Wainwright and Sharon Stone as Lenore Osgood.

Netflix had given the production a series order for two seasons consisting of nine episodes each. Netflix reportedly won a bidding war over Hulu and Apple who were also interested in the project.

Looking forward to this! More than that Hollywood story.
Once again I can already tell that Murphy will not stay true to the book or movie because there are way too much saccharine colours and makeup in this trailer, and everything looks too glossy. Nurse Ratched was marked by the fact that she didn't carry any lipstick, makeup, and she wasn't very 'feminine' at all I guess this is for a very specific demographic. The Vampire Diaries folk.

An absolute must-watch, thought it was brilliant from start to finish and got through the entire series within a few short days. I was instantly hooked!

Sarah Paulson is, of course, a fantastic actress but the addition of Sharon Stone was the icing on the cake. I haven’t spoken to anyone who thought this show was a disappointment!

I watched it and I find it okay. I find it nice. It took me a week to finish watching the second episode (as I found the first two episodes quite boring) but then I got into the plot and completed watching the series quickly.

What I hated about this show (and not only this one, but most of the today's popular shows and movies), is this pretentiousness. The characters are all oh-so-fabulous and badass (I mean just look at the the main character's frigid attitude and vocabulary), while many of the scenes and lines seem to be done only with the goal of becoming a viral meme, instead of meaningfully contributing to the plot. Monkey pet? Oh b*tch, please.

I find it dated and pathetic.

I loved Judy Davis here.
