Now that it's getting colder my skin is getting super dry! It even peels around the nostrils and that looks awful under makeup. I've been using my night moisturizer (two applications to get rid of the ohmygodmyfaceisabouttobreak tight feeling) but it's not enough! I'm using A Perfect World by Origins.

What's a good creamy moisturizer for dry skin? Any help would be very very appreciated.

Oil of Olay is VERY rich.....can only use it at night and it REALLY moisterises the skin.

Biotherm sensitive skin range has the moisturizer with the more moisturizing effects!!! :D
I tried and loved it, it really goes deeeep in the skin.

you can check te range here:

Thanks, I'll check that out!

haha, susie bubble, I used that as a moisturizer in the summer and I had to use it twice and that still wasn't enough..! I'm talking industrial strength moisturizer!

one of the most rich moisturizers i have ever tried is weleda skin food

http://www.spafeatures.com/095508198595.html

this is a very heavy moisturizer, but if you are extremely dry, it will work for you. i have used it on my face in the past during winter and i plan on using it again this winter. i bought it at whole foods.

Rich Moisturizers:

I swear by Creme De La Mer Moisturizer

and for not so pricy alternatives:

Nivea Creme (smells great)
Loccitane Shea Butter
Vaseline

That stuff smells heavennnnnnnnllllllllllyyyyy (like lemon rind) though it is sooo goopy. (If you have serious serious skin drying/cracking, I'd try it.)

There's Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream (which also lends a patina but is nothing like the Weleda). Both of these lines are health food store or Whole Foods type brands.

If you like anything by Dermalogica, I've used a couple of their moisturizers and been impressed with how moisturizing they are. Although I forget the names.

FWIW I find that being really good about exfoliating, and having a humidifier bedside in the winter, *really* help keep my skin from drying out.

Just because your skin is dry does not mean you should use a 'very rich' cream.
1. It can clog your pores
2. If its not suited to your skin type/skin age it will not absorb properly and leave an oily appearance
However, if you want something 'very moisturizing', I would recommend Valmont Serum from the Nature line. You put it on after you cleanse your face, and it absorbs completely. Then you apply a regular moisturizer ontop of it to seal in the goodness.
I swear, everytime after i use it, my skin feels juicy and silky,, like peaches and cream

Its more moisturizing than anything i've tried from cle de peau or la mer. La mer is basically just shea butter, and even after using cle de peau for 4 years, Nature from Valmont is the best!

there are so many garbage products out there with dumb stories to suck you into their whole get-up. I am personally a skin care addict, but once i found this book "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me" by Paula Begoun... and it has changed the way i buy my products.
she also has a website ::: http://www.cosmeticscop.com
always read the ingredients, so u know what you are getting!

I really like to use:
Dr. Hauschka Rose Cream
sweet almond oil

But it's a really personal thing isn't it? So you've got to try around a bit until you get it just right for you. Good luck!

shea fanatic here again

ok - i've got super crazy dry skin & i've tried almost every moisturizer out there. i swear by: 100% pure natural Shea Butter. You can tell it's pure if it's sorta greenish-yellow, has to be dug out in chunks & has it's own unique scent (if it's unscented or smells like chocolate or vanilla, it's been processed). See properties below. Also - mixing w/ essential oil (eg. Patchouli or Lavender) will add extra benefits.

Tip: take a fingernail sized chunk, rub it between your palms to emulsify & massage thoroughly into skin.

Insane Depths o' Winter tip: you may want to supplement the shea by spritzing first with pure rosewater + glycerin mix. This will draw moisture into your skin and the shea will seal it in, while adding more moisture and protection. Alternatively you can wear a humectant type of moisturizer.. or a moisturizer that you like that has water content (but that isn't thick/heavy enough for you on its own) & then top off with a bit of shea.

Summer: you can wear Shea if you want, but if it's really really hot & humid, may be too intense. i switch to Emu oil when with the humidity it gets up over 35C.

When it won't work 4U: i've got tiny pores & extremely dry skin. i don't know how shea will go over with someone who has large pores & oily skin - probably wouldn't recommend it - but then - ya wouldn't need some mad intensive moisturizing power.

heals & deeply moisturizes. naturally occuring: vitamins A,B,C,D,E,F & K.
also boasts of iron, calcium & protein. provides some sun protection.

sounds 2good2Btrue eh? don't know about all those vitamins, but i'm very happy w/ shea.

btw: i second investing in a good humidifier as well. If you can't afford one, you can always fill a huge pot - bring it to boil on the stove & then reduce to lowest simmer. This only works if: you don't have the kitchen fan on & if you're in a 1bedroom or bachelor apt. My engineering friend says it uses about the same/less energy as an actual humidifier.. & when i did it for winter, it worked.

skin food gets great reviews on mua..I've been thinking of buying that myself. That and Dermalogica's Intensive Moisturising Balance which also has gotten great reviews.

I dont know if you use a biological peel (kinda like a scrub but without the harse grains) to removed dead skin cells..It helps letting the moisturizer sink into your skin proberly.

Dermalogica is great, I don´t use the richer creams though so I wouldn´t know about them, but everything I´ve tried from them so far has been great for my skin so I would guess their richer creams are good too.

Ainhoa is very rich and very moisturising too. It smells lovely, but if you have very dry skin you should avoid perfume. It may irratate your skin causing it to overdry.

Thanks gruvee  for the shea butter tips ^
my pleasure :flower:

Fleur: "^ok so you just rub it in your palms and just apply it right? cos i have a bit of shea butter at home and i never understand how you use it"

= yup - that's pretty much it - dig some out of the jar (start off small - fingernail size) and rib it between your palms (rather than into your palms) - then rub the emulsified shea butter into your facial skin - thoroughly massaging it in. ^_^
