So not really sure if this counts as a tip, but I was looking around online and saw that Rent the Runway is giving away $500 towards whatever special event dress you want....the link is here, but yeah since they do this sometimes maybe it's not a tip I do really really like RTR but my goal is to get down a few pounds before I do it.

Also, I know they do clearance sales once a year so if you follow them on Facebook (that's what I do since my email is currently armageddon) you can find out about deals first as well as special Facebook incentives like discounts and such.

Anyway have any of you rented from any of the online renting sites before? There are a few...I know that.

carine roitfeld (stylist and former editor in chief of french vogue) mentioned in an interview recently that fashion designer azzedine alaia told her it was tacky to wear borrowed clothes...
and i have to admit that i sort of feel the same way...

it's different for celebrities who have so many events to attend and need something different for each one...
but i think that in real life i wouldn't want to wear someone else's clothes...
i just wouldn't be comfortable and i wouldn't feel like 'me'...
:ninja:...

i have such an attachment to so many of my clothes (and also want them to be tailored perfectly if they are for a special event) that these sorts of sites just don't appeal to me...

and the things that I would want to wear that are out of my price range still would end up being a few hundred dollars... and then if you get it and it doesn't fit, are you out that money?? (i know they send you a couple sizes, but still, no guarantee that it will look good).

i've used rent the runway before and it was just sort of eh. i had gotten an offer (i don't know if they still do this) to rent a second (cheaper) dress for free when i rented the first, so total they sent me 4 dresses. one of them fit so-so, the rest were awful and unflattering and on the website they were all recommended for my body type. to be fair, my issues were with the designer (herve... what a joke, the dresses were poorly made and unflattering), but in the end i spent about $250 and wound up just wearing one of my own dresses out. i wouldn't rent a dress unless you'd seen it and tried it on in person beforehand.

i'd return to their website if they had a better selection of designers... more high-end, less basic tacky stuff. maybe they have to take the dresses that don't sell well from designers? their stuff from versus, proenza, etc are seasons old and seem like the collection rejects to me.
