Rihanna, Good Girl Gone Broke?

I find her entertaining, like her videos, etc. but I don't think she has talent. To me, she is the perfect example of someone with no talent making it big in the music business.

Either way, it's a shame that her former business manager is talking to the press. I loose all respect for people in a professional environment that deals heavily with confidential information when they go talking to the press. They loose all credibility and respect of former and future potential clients. Rihanna can't be broke.....she is damn near everywhere!!

Beyonce does not appeal to most anymore. She already has a few singles and nobody even knows.

: well one thing beyonce has is a great management team...they know how to look after her cash and have ensured that her career is planted solidly on the ground. Rihanna's career on the other hand seems rather temporary, her management is concetrating on the hot 100 and current trends instead of building her a solid career.

speaking of overhyped, talentless one-hit wonders....anyone remember ashanti? :innocent:

as for Rhianna, I thought she was pretty cool and entertaining...but I also read an article about her in Marie Claire or Elle when the original day for the int. was canceled due to `sickness` then the interviewer found out the next day Rhianna was lounging at home and playing with friends. The interviewer described her as high-maintenance and not exactly charming... my opinion of her changed then...

I'm not sure if this rumor is true....Last week she spent over $12,000 at Intermix in Soho. Unless she is completely stupid, I don't think she would be spending like that if she was in debt. You never know though...

From the current financial crisis in the US I think it's safe to say that it's pretty normal for people to be "completely stupid" with their money . It's probably worse for celebrities who think they can earn that back, lickety split.

Its not about Def Jam not managing the money - she isn't making money for the label. The label are concerned about sales from her albums and singles and downloads. Her management get their payday through the endorsements etc so no wonder they hype her beyond all belief. Plus unfortunately, I have heard that Rihanna is VERY 'difficult'. The text said that they 'fought' for her to have Umbrella - an indication that she doesn't write her own songs, not that I am surprised. The music industry is on melt down as people are not buying CDs etc any longer. Its no surprise that the label is refusing to pay out massive sums on what they view as a liability.

I knew that 'performers' didn't earn as much as songwriters, but my eyes were really opened to the whole process when I read a book by Louis Walsh (Westlife/Boyzone manager) who described the workings of the industry in very simple terms, and even provided detailed breakdowns of tour costs, so you could see what a performer was earning at the end of it all (ie often not that much unless they're as smart as U2).

She is terrible, I would not expect anything less from a talentless girl who steals the melodies from other hard working artists.

@tigerrouge: i'm curious, how have U2 handled their money? that book sounds interesting!!
