Ripped jeans S/S 08

It's too Abercrombie-from-2004 for me. Girls would buy $70 jeans that were pre-ripped and it looked so stupid. I still think it looks stupid, IMHO. You can tell they were ripped by a machine which is kinda ridiculous to me.

I think that jeans that are way over-ripped tend to make ones thighs look huge. But I love light washed ripped jeans.

Rips in moderation are fine. But when you have more rip than jeans, they are fail jeans. I keep coming back to threads pf styles I've trashed in hopes that I find something at least moderate and tolerable. I think I've been okay with some (I know this is on jeans, but...) ripped and distressed denim mini skirts which I've been okay with. But for the most part, most ripped denim is either trashy or just horrid.

I'm still in that "Why Do People Still Buy/Wear/Love Ripped Jeans?" club. Yeah, it's different because they aren't clean denims. But again... this is different-bad. Defend these all you want. I haven't been sold on ripped jeans/denim, and still not sold to this day.

lol, whenever i wear one, my dad would tell me, "what the hell is that? go change your pants!" lol, he's old school.

hahahha! my dad says the saaaaaaaame thing!

i destroyed my jeans, my own. it doesnt look anything like the abercrombie look, which im honestly not a fan of. i wouldnt ever buy ripped jeans anyway. its quite easy to just do it on my own. B)

You bring up a good exception. I like moderately ripped DIY jeans. You can tell those aren't machine-ripped.

I agree it seems to be a trend that's creeping back in. I'm just not too much of a fan of it.

me neither, the problem is when people over-use it and they look like theyre homeless

Ketshi & fashionknows you two have the BEST jeans!!

Ketshi what did you rip them with? Looks great!

For someone who wanted to know how it looks on men, here is a photo, I personally love the look, and want a pair ASAP. I have a pair of Cheap Mondays I'm just going to cut into once I know what to use.

Yes I would like to know that too! Do you just cut them with scissors?

The best way to get those frays is to rip them with your hands or use sandpaper, NOT SCISSORS!!
Those make the cuts look unnatural.
Then you have to throw them in the washing machine and after blow dry them, that gets them frayed really well.

You could also try pulling loose wires from the cuts. :flower:

I kind of like when that comes in a natural more random way... if its too perfects cuts here and there is less spontaneous... so i like 'em but not making an imperfection look perfect in a way... i hope this doesn't sound too cryptic...

I don't buy ripped jeans, but I have had a pair for a few years now which have a few rips in them. I prefer it when it looks natural, I'm not that big a fan of the lines and lines of rips - but each to their own :flower:

If you want to make the rips look more frayed, rub them with sandpaper.

it frays the more you wash it doesn't it?

I tried to do that at home a few months ago. Complete and utter failure. Yours looks awesome though.
No, I think it takes a lot of washing to make it significantly more frayed. I've washed my FAIL pair five times and there has been no change.
