What do you think about ropes used as belts, bags accessories, shoes laces as seen at Lancetti (pic), Emporio Armani and YvesSaintLaurent? Did you see them on any other spring show? Could they be a rising trend for spring (maybe together with the navy theme)?

I like 'em. The fab thing is it's very easy to make your own rope accessories, with all different sorts of colors and textures and sizes of rope (from the more traditional utilitarian ropes from a hardware store to metallic rope trim from the craft store). I also like the fact that rope details work with any number of "looks"--from minimalist to ethnic to nautical to bohemian and so on.

I bought a kit from Michael's to make sailor-style braided rope bracelets. :woot: Only $4, and contains enough to make 3 bracelets (2 traditional off-white ones, and one in a sort of tie-dyed pinkish color).

Well, yes, the pic is more ethnic-boheme, but - as Boogie says - the ropes work with lots of "look". (btw, emi, are u from rome too? because i am!)

I completely agree, they're versatile with many different looks. I myself love how it looks with pirate chic. :P the high street shops seem to have already caught on to this trend (via the boho trend I guess) - during the january sales, I picked up several tops that have rope detailing on them.

I like it..it goes great with kaftans..just get an curtain-robe thingy..and make a DIY robe belt :flower: ..that's what I'm going to use my "curtain-robe thingy" for.

Finally someone from Rome, mi sono sentita un po sola qua! Originally I'm from Sweden but I work here since september...

I like them in the more boho sense, not too much a fan of the 'hello sailor' look though

love it. Marni had lots of rope on the runway this season and I saw some of it in store today. agree with hboogie that it works on a lot of different styles and is fairly cheap. Dries had soething sort of similar too though I don't think he used rope.

merged into a pre-existing thread of the same subject. :flower:

^ that's interesting...but too many ropes for my taste.

i like the rope trend. i saw this on luisa via roma a while ago:
