Vintage hairstyles: London, SF

I'm generally back and forth between a few different cities pretty often, and while I've found salons in L.A. and San Diego that do excellent reproductions of 40's and 50's hairstyles if I bring in a picture of what I'm looking for, I don't know where to go when I'm in London or S.F. I'm just not good at doing complicated things with my hair myself, so I have to have it done at a salon or I look like a ragamuffin. Is there anyone you could recommend in London or San Francisco?

hey there,
i've always been immensly intrigued by the rockabilly fashion culture, and the way those dames do their hair. I haven't a clue how they do the pintuck curls so sleek, the bufonts so perfect...if anyone has tips, tricks, styling links on this or just some retro pics of pin-up type styles of hair...please contribute!

awesome pictures! thank you! although im still at a complete loss on how to do this lovely hairstyling!

thanks you so much for this thread jun3machina
i'm a big fan of rockabilly

I have never heard Dita be called Rockabilly...
I thought you need tattoos to be so, no?...

The hair is so cute.

im so glad there's more people interested in this too!! i dont think you have to have tattoos to be rockabilly, although a lot of rockabilly girls do have them...

i went to a classic car show last month and there were a ton of girls all dressed to a 't' with perfect hair, vintage clothes and red lips/liquid liner....i tried my best, but there was such a level of perfection in the way they executed everything. no stray hairs in their curls, perfectly lined eyes...i really admire this style!

It's quite pervalent here in southern california as well, im not sure about it's popularity in other areas in the nation...

I am in Boston and hardly ever see anyone in this style.
I would much prefer it to some of the looks we have around here.

I am always in awe of women like these who, like you say executed everything so perfectly.
I could never do that but I would love to be able to.

try mad rad hair lj.. people give lots of advice etc. on there about this type of thing and pictures to

i love this type of hair :heat: its a b*tch to do .. i love flower clips as well

there's got to be more info on how to do this! i know there's a salon near me called 'pin-ups' and they specialize in rockabilly/tattoo culture hairstyles....

i've been messing around with my hair quite a bit and lots of gels, blow dryed and with foam curlers works wonders....also LOTZ of hairspray! when i get some of this stuff down, i'll take pics for you all to see and try to explain it...

i wish there were some hairstylists that could chime in....the ladies of the 1940's knew how to do a DO!

ok so i used to wear my hair like this alot .. but now ive had my hair cut short.. i have it undercut so have a little bit of length on top and one side .. but im lost for ideas

anyone have any ideas what i could do ??or any pictures of rockabilly hair with shorter hair ??

thanks :flower:
