Roman Polanski Sex Case Hearing Concludes

A hearing in the Roman Polanski sex case has reportedly ended without a ruling.

The Associated Press reports that a California appeals court hearing ended without a ruling on Thursday, after three justices heard arguments from prosecutors and attorneys representing Polanski and his victim.

Polanski's attorney, according to the AP, asked that the criminal case against his client be dropped, and a Los Angeles appeals court is being asked to decide whether it should order a Superior Court judge to dismiss the case without the director present in court.

The AP reports that the justices are expected to issue a written ruling on the matter.

NEW YORK – Summit Entertainment, the distributor of the "Twilight" films, has picked up Roman Polanski's latest movie.
Summit says it will distribute Polanski's "The Ghost Writer" in North America. The film is expected to be released in the first half of 2010.
In the film, Pierce Brosnan stars as a former British prime minister who's writing his memoirs with the help of a ghostwriter, played by Ewan McGregor. It's Polanski's first film since 2005's "Oliver Twist."
The fate of "The Ghost Writer" had been in some doubt since the 76-year-old director was arrested in Switzerland, where he awaits extradition to the U.S.

Roman Polanski's wife Emmanuelle Seigner chalks her husband's r*pe of a 13-year-old girl up to a "crazy time." It's a terrible excuse — but I can't bring myself to hate her.

In an interview with French Elle, Seigner said, "I am not a super-liberal person who thinks that nothing is that serious. I also think that at the time people didn't live and react in the same way." She added, "It was a crazy time. The attitude to drugs was not the same, nor was the attitude to sexual liberty and permissiveness." Of her relationship with Polanski, who may now be sentenced in absentia to time served, she said, "My personal truth is that Roman is a marvelous husband and man. He is an impeccable man and I have nothing to reproach him for."

Broadsheet's Tracy Clark-Flory takes issue with Seigner's "crazy time" excuse:
We may have a slightly difference cultural perspective now looking back at the incident, but the legal perspective is fundamentally the same: What he did was criminal and is still criminal. Most of us have at some point lied to ourselves to avoid an unbearable truth, but, I'm sorry, this particular case of self-delusion is inexcusable and can't go unchallenged.
Seigner's statement trivializes r*pe by making it sound like a matter of sexual "permissiveness," and her words are damaging to all those who fight to remind others that sexual assault is never okay. But at the same time, it's hard to imagine how she could stay married to a child r*pist without some form of rationalization.
If Polanski hadn't fled, he would certainly have been released by now, and be free to marry or date as he chose. Unless they're committed after their release, sex offenders are allowed to have relationships with other adults, and I'm not prepared to say they shouldn't have that right. But anyone who marries a r*pist must have some way of convincing herself not only that her husband won't r*pe again, but that someone who could commit such a crime is still a man worth loving.
Positive illusions can help sustain any relationship, and Seigner appears to have constructed a major one: that what her husband did wasn't really so bad because he did it during a time of "sexual liberty." From the point of view of r*pe victims and anti-r*pe advocates, this isn't the ideal response — it would probably have been better if she had said something like, "my husband did something deeply wrong many years ago, but now he abhors what he did and has become a different and better person, and that's how I'm able to live with him." As much as I wish Seigner had said this, instead of making excuses about the seventies, I'm not sure it's her responsibility to say it.

Of course, I was enraged at celebrities who supported Polanski, and by all rights I should probably be just as enraged at Seigner. Many abusers are protected by those close to them, and while Polanski isn't actively hurting children, Seigner's words may unintentionally give support to those who are. At the same time, Seigner has to live every day with the knowledge that her husband and the father of her children raped and sodomized a thirteen-year-old girl. She has to live with his comments about the "therapeutic role" of young girls in his life, the knowledge that she was still a teenager when they became involved, and the obvious reality that she no longer is. I want to say that I'm shocked she can do all this, but the truth is that people have overlooked worse for the sake of love or comfort, and I understand why she has to defend her husband even if I may not respect it. I know I should be angry, but all I can muster is the hope that she teaches her children that r*pe is wrong, and that her words don't serve as justification for others to turn a blind eye when their loved ones become abusers.

i remember one time before he was arrested in an interview she made a joke about polanski slipping qualudes in her drink when he met her. it made me sick. she definitely trivalizes r*pe.

OMG, every time I hear about the "sexual liberty" - excuse it makes me sick. Especially when it comes from a mother of two young children. And that she dares to talk about "permissiveness" when talking about child r*pe is horrendous.
Polanski raped a 13 year old girl and nothing is ever going to change it or make it any less wrong.

Roman Polanski Has Some Sh*t To Say

Roman Polanski, who is currently on forced vacation in his fancy Swiss chalet, took a little time out from watching reruns of Toddlers & Tiaras and Skype-ing with Pedobear to write a 908-word statement about his extradition from Switzerland to the United States. Roman released the long as* letter through his friend Bernard-Henri Lévy. Roman believes we should all leave him alone, because he's already served time for r*ping a 13-year-old girl.

You can read the entire thing at Deadline Hollywood, but you might want to save yourself some time by farting into your hand and then smelling it. It will leave you with the same taste in your mouth. Here's a little snip of Roman's letter:

I can now remain silent no longer!

I can remain silent no longer because the American authorities have just decided, in defiance of all the arguments and depositions submitted by third parties, not to agree to sentence me in absentia even though the same Court of Appeal recommended the contrary.

I can remain silent no longer because the California court has dismissed the victim's numerous requests that proceedings against me be dropped, once and for all, to spare her from further harassment every time this affair is raised once more.

I can remain silent no longer because there has just been a new development of immense significance.....

I can no longer remain silent because the United States continues to demand my extradition more to serve me on a platter to the media of the world than to pronounce a judgment concerning which an agreement was reached 33 years ago.

I can remain silent no longer because I have been placed under house arrest in Gstaad and bailed in very large sum of money which I have managed to raise only by mortgaging the apartment that has been my home for over 30 years, and because I am far from my family and unable to work.

Such are the facts I wished to put before you in the hope that Switzerland will recognize that there are no grounds for extradition, and that I shall be able to find peace, be reunited with my family, and live in freedom in my native land.

But can he remain silent any longer?

It took Roman 908 words to basically say, "WAH! WAH! WAH! WAAAAAH!" Roman is crying and moaning about how he feels he's not being treated fairly, yet he's sipping Swiss Miss hot chocolate from a St. Bernard's barrel collar in the comfort of a luxurious chalet instead of making grilled cheese on a radiator in prison. I couldn't offer him a drop of sympathy even if I stuck a Quaalude up my culo.

No sympathy from me.

Roman Polanski: “I Ask Only to Be Treated Fairly Like Anyone Else*" --- Vanity Fair

*treated like any other man who drugs & rapes little girls.

Every time I see his face, I wanna  its funny how the perverted criminal is crying about justice. If he was any avrg Joe, he'll be rotting in jail and being labeled child predator for life and chased by parents on every 'respectable' neighborhood. However, money and powerful connection sure talks in our world.

Its one thing to have consensual sex with a teen (even though the concept of consent is non-existent when it deals with children under the age of 16), but knowing how he drugged a 13 yrs old and sodomized her while she kept screaming NO is just sick. I'm also disappointed her mother was never charged, since she practically handed her child over to a middle aged man and left her alone in his mansion in the hope of making a career on the back of her kid.

He reminds me of someone else I know ... both of them have an amazing gift for seeing things from only their own perspective. It's not all about YOUUUU, Roman, you little troll.

He can hole up in Gstaad all he wants ... he's not going to escape the karma.

Charlotte Lewis was one of those actresses who shone like a star in her early films - and then seemingly disappeared off the face of the earth, until she turned up in Playboy in the early 90s, and appeared in a few smutty films, as if she'd long ago abandoned all hopes of having a serious career. Then again, that's what happens to many girls who arrive in Hollywood, even the ones lucky enough to avoid the unsavoury aspects.

^because sometimes you get paid for telling a story:innocent:

But hell, Roman really should stay in jail. I've had enough of the 'celebrity endorsements':ermm:

Speaking of karma, there are quite serious consequences for throwing someone off their path ... which is what it sounds like happened here.

I would agree that it seems likely there are more. If this is his sick 'taste,' and given his massive sense of entitlement, there is no way there could only be two.

i dunno if i feel happy or sad about this. probably neither. i do know i feel there is more to this story than what we've read and how much of a role polanski did actually play in this. i mean the mother allowing her 13 yr old to be in the presence of a 40 yr old man, alone??

i don't think he would have never been treated fairly under the circumstances....especially since he left. also they never took the victim's feelings into consideration. instead, they continue to bring this back up,forcing the poor woman to relive what happened to her.
