Rooney Mara

LOVE this new dress. LOVE it. I did not like her outfit in post #490, because it looked like she was wearing a sports bra with an A-line skirt. Not cute. But she's made up for it with this new look! :D

I just posted the same thing before reading this- totally agree!! She seems really vacant, too. Why not be excited at your big break?

She does undeniably have a great body (and face) for clothes, though, especially the ones she's been wearing on this tour.

Her stylist has done a really great job of dressing her and she does look great. But it all just feels so hollow to me, like they've said "You've got the edgy haircut & role so lets just make you look the part until your hair grows out or we decide if we're going to do books 2 & 3". She's not owning these looks to me.

I saw the movie over the weekend and think her job in the movie was pretty good, not phenomenal or groundbreaking. I don't know, I just don't think (and this is just my opinion) she really "became" Lisbeth. Remember when Heath Ledger played the Joker? You can tell he completely became that character, even tho I think it was detrimental to him personally. Lisbeth is one of my fave book characters and even tho I liked the movie (both versions) I wish Rooney would have made me love the film version Lisbeth.

Sorry for the long ramble.

I love how she has been presented on this tour- she has a very strong look right now and her stylist is doing an excellent job selecting dresses and day looks that highlight her current "Lisbeth-ness." That being said, it doesn't look natural to me. Not to draw comparisons, but I could believe someone like Noomi Rapace in these ensembles. For Rooney it feels very contrived, especially when you consider how she was dressing during the Social Network promotions.
She has said many times in interviews that her style has changed and that it was easy transforming into Rooney Mara, but not so much getting out of character. It's really not unfeasible. People change their style all the time due to different circumstances (boyfriend, lifestyle choices).

totally! fantastic dress!!:woot:

Go back and look at anyones style, famous or not, and it changes, evolves, is full of experiments, I know mine is. She's still a relatively young girl and she's trying something out, maybe it will stick, maybe it won't. Personally I've loved everything she's gone for during the press tour. If that Stylelist article is serious then, oh, my.

isn't that the point of having a stylist?:p none of the celebs dress like they do IRL, and on a regular basis. award shows and premiers are like playing dress up....i think that's the whole point. but it's making us look at her, when many (myself included) could care less prior...and she's getting a sh*t ton of editorials....and by making her fashion forward looking, they're a helluva lot more interesting than just some pretty girl like she was in the social network

She is like a goth Audrey Hepburn! I hope she keeps this hair. It totally suits her. Love her looks lately.
i think she said in an interview she's gonna go back to her "old" hairstyle - blonde and long soon enough (tho, i don't know how since Sony said they're going forward with sequels). IMO, it's the hair that did miracles to her image, made her stood up and then her whole poise and easiness with which she's wearing all these clothes that would look so "wannabe-ish and would totally eat someone else up" came through.

i don't remember a new celeb coming out and yet baring this early on such bold fashion choices without any apparent "issues" while doing so. it's mesmerizing to watch, actually to a point it does make me wonder if it's "too natural".

anyhow, i love the latest choices sans the headband which indeed looks cheap and i don't like the shoes she wore to the prem - they seem kinda off with that kind of a dress.

I cannot get over how effortlessly she pulls everything off. I feel like I'm repeating myself but she makes anything and everything that she wears look so good.

The dress is Michael Kors Pre-Fall 2012. I would've preferred it without the ruffles. It cheapens the look. And better shoes. It's rather meh. Love the headband, though.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. That's actually what made me realise that she was wearing Michael Kors. Kind of like how I identified the Roksanda Ilincic jumpsuit she wore in Stockholm. Carey Mulligan wore a similar cut-out dress a few months earlier. I prefer Leighton's gown. It would've looked great on Rooney. I think she should stay away from bland designers like Michael Kors, though.

yeah, Leighton's pick is far better, but i like this one on Rooney too, she lits it up from its apparent blandness, IMO.
Carey's cut-out? you probably mean the one she wore to that conference, the orange/white one that was cut-out in the middle baring her stomach on sides? now i see it.

I wouldn't call that Michael Kors dress bland by a longshot. It's the most forward thing she's worn aside from the jumpsuit.

Yeah, it was from the same collection. :D

When I first saw it, I thought it was the same dress Leighton wore. Very similar!

her performance in the film is truly amazing. plus they have this incredibly moving scene at the end which was in the book but not in the swedish film...

I'm not a fan of the shoes and I wish she would find something better to do with her hands but the dress fits her perfectly and I'm so glad she removed the belt

whoever styled that collection look obviously doesn't know how to keep it simple

I honestly think the reason she's wearing all these looks so well is because of her hair and make-up. Like the Rodarte dress, just imagining her wearing it with her old hair drags it down.

half short half long dresses are always so tricky and I think she pulled them off well.

I applaud the risk.
