Sabato De Sarno - Designer

I don't know anything about how this works but I would think sticking with the distinctness of Alessandro's look, maybe with a little zhuzh for some freshness, would be more lucrative than completely chucking it and going generic? I really don't get it unless they're afraid of the high ups and crashing downs that come with trends.

gucci is seeming unconfident. For example people I know that spent very little at Gucci received holiday Gifts from the company. I dunno what the criteria is but it is very low to be gifting someone who spent 3k a pair of mugs.

I've come across some images of Gucci's store design/interiors in 1977 and it looks so much better.
The wood panelling and ceilings were so much better looking and elegant than what they have currently.

Gucci stores should look Elegant, Classically Italian and with a slight edge of seductiveness.
Thinks of leather, wood, and tiles as interiors.

Metallic interiors are for Industrial/Deconstructed Houses Like Acne Studios, Balenciaga and Gentle Monster.
Did they just consider those designs because it was the "it" design trend?

I went today inside the store, and honestly it was beautiful.
Authentic Milanese style with some amazing artistic gem (Fontana inside the privè), Marbles were wonderful. I sensed a classic Gucci vibe I didn't sensed in the last 10 years or so inside Gucci stores.
I really don't think it's fair to judge a store by a few pictures, better to actually enter before judging.
There was a long queue outside to get in as well.

So Gucci wants to be the new Prada? Competing to become the coldest luxury brand in fashion. 😂 I can’t. Their shopping bags are now plain silver. Good god

I know what you mean about Gucci stores not feeling Gucci-like since Michele.
Correct the record and nominate Sabato as designer of the year.

Funny because Sabato doesn’t even have the confidence to think he is designer of the year based on his interview before his first collection debuted lol

Interesting.

Maybe a PR company ?

But I don’t necessary feel like people felt like Gucci stores under Michele felt « Gucci » because some of those wallpapers were wild sometimes but it had that warm luxurious feeling people associate with. Because Frida’s stores were also warm in terms of color palette and textures while being totally different from the ones from Alessandro (I really can’t believe how they have managed to work together for so long to be that different in terms of taste).

Under Tom, the color palette was more neutral and then quite warm during the later years.

I’m curious to see it IRL but it does gives you that cold, Prada-ish vibe that doesn’t scream Gucci.

I really hope that ultimately his vision will really come together for Gucci.

While the flagship does not yet fully reflect the vision of new creative director Sabato De Sarno, his influence is clearly visible ...

i think the fashion genes must have skipped an entire generation because the f*ck what is going on with the current crop of designers? we're really in the trenches.
chiii.... you would think these new gen designers would be PEAK due to them growing up to the greats (YSL, Mugler, Karl, Galliano, McQueen etc etc)

While the pool of designers being criticized are pretty much a representation of the times, they are only in that pool because of who they’re chosen by. The people doing the choosing aren’t looking for actual creativity or vision; they’re looking for a short attention span to sell. I know there are people out there who have great ideas and with the backing of some crazy capital they’d do wonders, but the wonders won’t necessarily be lucrative in grabbing the attention of the masses of people that have attention deficit disorders or lack any sense of identity. And to make it worse I forgot which ep but on one of the Margiela podcast's Galliano said he had a projection confirmed saying by 2025, 45% of luxury consumers will be those of Gen Z... Imagine suits trying to fit in aesthetics and merchandise to lure in iPad kids to get them into credit card debt... It's gonna bring in the lowest of low creative director people to try and fulfill those wishes. It sounds so annoying I'm not like other girls but as the "mainstream" continues to go downhill, looking elsewhere you'll find great creative people. They just won't have the resources of arnault and pinault.

so true. There are loads of small, independent designers to buy from, it just takes a little more effort to look beyond the marketing might and constant presence of the big groups.

*sigh*

If you want a shot in the industry all you have to do is sew clothes beautifully. The big problem is that we have lots of people who are technically masters ; Maria Carla or whatever her name is at Dior… her friend Pierre at Valentino. These are skilled clothes makers with no vision. That is the broad majority of fashion designers. The actual visionaries are few and far between.

if these creatives that you speak of sewed clothes finely they would get opportunities too. Nobody needs more Elena Velez’s running around.

These are the bums worried about the environment while Bill Gates is about to trash 240 million computers while simultaneously thinking Bill Gates is concerned about carbon emissions. These people hardly have the capacity to think. LVMH Kering et al doesnt give a single f*ck and will work those bums for ever penny they got because this is business. This is an ancient Roman ideal - those who want to be deceived should be.
