Sabato De Sarno - Designer

There's just no fantasy being sold at Gucci, as it currently stands. It's all so stale and feels so attainable. The campaigns have no clear direction, they're still pushing the logomania pieces like it's 2016, and the shows have just been so moody. Each successful era of Gucci felt like its own distinct film - however, with Sabato's tenure so far...it feels like a youtube vlog? Idk.

Is the signature of his Gucci really just sequined dresses and the color of red? I still stand by how he should've gone with the direction he proposed with that Daria Werbowy campaign - glamorous, Los Angeles, Chateau Marmont, sunshine, wealth (which Michele explored but Sabato could've done through a different lens). Gen Z is getting older and I think they are appreciating more ~old wealth~ lifestyles again. Especially as Tom Ford and YSL have gone in a more dark direction, it would've been great for Gucci to capitalize on a more optimistic, bright, wealthy look.

Not surprised by Gucci's results. At the local store near me, you usually see welfare queens with their stimmy/child support checks or Young Thug wannabes or rural country folk going on a spree. In other words its become a ghetto fabulous aspirational brand. If Gucci thinks they can be Hermes or Chanel level that boat sailed a long time ago. Another thing I noticed Wealthy Chinese tourists rarely shop at Gucci, I see them at Chanel, Dior,Hermes. I expect Gucci to crater even more

Aside from that description being "wild"... Gucci has always courted those types, even in the Frida days so it's not really new.

Gucci was ghetto fabulous when Tom was at the brand. Dior's book tote, slides and menswear offering is ghetto. Hermes is probably the one brand that does not court what you call ghetto fabulous aspirational brand

Gucci products all together are kind of ugly right now. I think Ancora man needs to have a real overhaul of their line of products. They needs to capitalize more on the Mors buckles than the double G!
At Vuitton they have great bags, at Fendi they have great bags. At Gucci they don’t.

It will be interesting to see if the marketing with Ancora will have an impact.

Me personally as a potential customer, I would probably pass on that. I think Vuitton and YSL have more interesting stuff for SS2024.

What I like about AM’s Gucci is that there were different offerings for customers with different styles. They also managed to build more lifestyle brands like kids, home and restaurant. What AM fail to do is to evolve and develop like what LV is doing. I believe to be able to compete with LV, Dior or Hermes, they need more than a CD but strong management and team to be able to develop even more products.

Ancora fails to do so. Everything looks like a streamlined basic stuff. Hype beats wont be drooling for that. Bags are lackluster. The jewelry, home and other stuff are completely forgotten. At least AM Gucci has characters, vibrancy. Ancora has nothing but ancora. I dont even get what it is.

I’ve noticed that a lot of the magazines with looks from the spring collection on the cover have at least four or more ad pages. The February Vogue Italia has 6! Kering is going all out with the marketing for this debut. I feel like I haven’t seen this kind of push in a long time.

Gucci Eyewear S/S 2024 : Vittoria Ceretti, Alia Bhatt & Ni Ni by David Sims

Another day, another Gucci campaign that adds nothing to the narrative. This is really getting out of hand. All of these campaigns reflect something completely different without any consideration of brand cohesion. The marketing of this brand has turned into a big jumbled mess. It's no surprise that sales are down. The consumer has no idea what the Gucci look is.

Sabato’s Gucci might not be selling yet but so far on NYFW we have already seen some of Sabato’s designs used as inspirations
I’m very curious to see his next collection.

So in this campaign : a grey hoodie, a denim shirt, a white tank top, and blue and white striped shirt. Very "elevated" basics indeed. BTW his RTW isn't on their website yet. Does anyone have insight ?
I know most of the big brands stuff will start to hit the stores from March 1st.
Nicolas’s Vuitton starts on March 1st for example. Gucci is still pushing the resort.

I will be logical for ANCORA to hit the stores and the website next week because they have the second womenswear show but they might also align with the direct competitors.

I feel the aesthetics was "very now" last September though, for a couple of days, then the effect was washed out by the rest of Milan and Paris fashion weeks, and definitely over by Oct. 1st 2023.
Because of their relentless campaigns (and that redundant menswear show), I feel already overexposed to Ancora and honestly tired, the whole Ancora is already dated in my mind, it's time to move on ...
I am not interested in seeing more of Ancora (and it has not reached the stores yet).
De Sarno is not very talented, but not very toxic neither, so I wish him to be able to evolve ...
