PPR chief executive officer François-Henri Pinault and actress Salma Hayek have called off their engagement.

They announced the engagement in March 2007 and their daughter, Valentina Paloma Pinault, was born in September.

In a statement to USA Today, Hayek's representative said, "We are sad to announce the engagement of Salma Hayek and Francois-Henri Pinault has been canceled. There will be no further comment."

PPR declined to comment.

i did find it weird how he was never around her after the birth, in the pap pics that is.

How sad. This must be a terrible time for her. I do sincerely hope she finds her soulmate/life partner at some point. She is such a hardworking woman, but I'm sure her baby is her greatest joy.

I think Salma genuinely liked him. She just doesn't seem like the kind of woman to take up with a man for money. Anyway, didn't she grow up with a really strict father? I know I'm generalising here, but I'd imagine that would make you want to be a pretty independant person.
