Samantha Cameron Joins The British Fashion Council
Samantha Cameron, also known as Mrs Prime Minister, is to join the British Fashion Council, it was announced today. Her last role, Creative Director at the uber posh stationers Smythson, lasted for 14 years until she stepped down last year, after falling pregnant with her fourth child, and expecting to move house – into Downing Street! (Although She will continue to work for the company two days a week as a creative consultant).
Her exact role at the BFC has not yet been defined but Mrs Cameron is enthusiastic already. 'London Fashion Week is extremely important to the fashion industry in the UK and I look forward to being fully involved from next season,' she said, a month after giving birth to baby Florence, 'we have so much young talent that needs to be supported and nurtured to ensure we are building brands and businesses for the future'.
While at Smythson, SamCam proved her talent-spotting credentials by commissioning hot London designers including Erdem, Giles Deacon and, most recently, Holly Fulton to creating a range of Fashion Diaries. This kind of fashion nous/good connections, coupled with her high profile in the media is sure to be an asset to the Council.
