Searching for My Perfect Fashion Career - HELP!!

I need help, I want to go into a career thats got a big connection with fashion, but not a fashion designer etc... I wouldnt mind how many years it takes to qualify etc... But i would like a job which is fairly easy to get, but not impossible to get a job in and I wouldnt like the job to be on a high demand......can anyone help?

a few jobs closely tied to fashion off the top of my head...

-Sales rep
-Fashion Buyer
-Merchandising
-Writer
-Stylist
-Fashion PR
-Photographer

However, almost all of these jobs are in demand. But in the fashion industry and in the job market today most jobs are. Jobs that aren't in demand probably don't pay that well or require and incredible amount of training. However, I think you can find a lot of sensible ways to work directly with the fashion industry without being a designer.

i hear that theres a large demand for fashion illustrators now and the courses (at least in the uk) are becoming harder to get on to - the one in leeds (where you are w00t - not to far from me) is really really good, maybe you'd be good at that?

How would someone get involved in trend forcasting/consulting ?

best thing is to contact trend forecasting agencies in the US space, i know there are some.. practically it may need some sociology/fashion history background but they may just hire people with a 'good eye' and updated fashion 'knowledge'

main thing when trend forecasting is to 'take personal style/prefferences' out of one's way.. this is a crucial part of the market and usually its mega companies that need trend forecasters advice..

i dunno how that works in the us but in europe its pretty hard to get a job in the fashion business. you have to have the right connections.its all about connections,ok you definetly need to be talented as well but knowing the right people is important.I know lot of people none of them ever studied anything before and they got into the fashion business because of being pushy and believing in their selfs.I know that sound cheesy und maybe thats only because my country is small just like its fashion business.But for example i contacted the art director who organises the hungarian fashion awards and he employed me,ok i worked hard as hell but that was in may and i started going to all the fashion events and now i have lotsa new friends and met a few really important people and hope to start my carereer as a stylist.You just have to know what you wanna do and fight for it.Life teaches you better.ok of course if you say i did this and that at saint martins or fit or parsons they are very good references -i like to get to all of this places as well and learn as much as i can -im just saying talent ambition and passion for what you are doing is more improtant than a degree

I'd think one needs to 'work' the agencies eg internships etc,
actually i started my styling career through model agencies
while styling new faces for their cards,
it was much fun till i got bored with newbies
