Jun3, thanks for the info, if u ever need help with fashion templates, i can! Thanks!

Can I just say how inspiring I find ALL your posts! I just found this thread and am completely addicted to it. I'd given up sewing due to work commitments but seeing your designs has made me realise what a fun thing it is to do. I think it's funny how an internet forum can bring that kind of thing back to you. Thank you guys for being so awesome and hopefully you'll be seeing my own designs in the near future...

I am just starting to sew but woould like some more materials to work with. There is a chain material shop called aberkaan near me but the material are all cheap looking. Where can you get any decent material for not a fortune.

Whenever I am in the topshop they have the boutique sewn up style like happygolucky which alway have gorgeous patterns but the patterns are so sloppy. Just wish the sold the material.

if you're looking for interesting materials, you can try the flea market
i know olivier theyskens supposedly made his first collection strictly from material he got from a flea market in france

antique stores and thrift stores too. i like to take old vintage things apart and remake them: furs, fabrics, bags, etc!

Bohochick, would you care to describe the progress quickly (if possible) of that grey dress? What kind of fabric did you use? It's lovely!

ingvildel, I'll try it was easy to swe the dress. The straps and the top part I just measured, sewed double and turned inside out., then ironed it. The "dress part" had equal width all the way, like a tube. I fastened it to the top part, made two pleats on each side in the front and two in the back in the middle. I fastened the straps, then hemmed it. Sewed the buttons on, and voila - one dress for you.
Just PM me if you have any quistions, dont know if this is a good explanation...

New dress. I couldn't believe this fabric was $1/ yard at walmart!

Ah that fabric is lovely!^
I bet you could make many many beautiful things if you learnt to dye and print fabric yourself :D

Hi all your clothes look great.:woot:
This is the first thing I've sewed myself so fingers crossed it doesn't fall apart...:innocent:

Going Off On An Unexpected Tangent

I have a few clothing items I'm planning on sewing, but in the meantime, my back injury has been acting up, and I've had to limit my time sitting on chairs. This has forced me to turn more to projects I can work on sitting on the couch or in bed--knitting and hand sewing projects.

I never thought I'd get interested in purses. It seems like everyone's gotten into knitting them, so that immediately turned me off it (I don't usually run with the herd). And hair barrettes--who'd have thunk it?? But once I got interested in sewing flowers, it started a personal trend that coincided perfectly with my current limitations. I'll try showing these and see if they're well-received at some upcoming holiday craft fairs I'm participating in and on my website.

I'm being considered as an ongoing monthly vendor at a local hair salon, so the barrettes will be perfect for that. It's kind of slow going since each flower is sewn by hand, but I've made a few more, including adding metallic silver & gold roses, beads and faux pearls to a headband I purchased that was already decorated with some faux pearls. I haven't taken pix of the new ones yet. I'm also using them as "go-withs" for some gifts I'll be sewing for little nieces.

It's always interesting to me how crafts can lead you in new, ever-expanding directions...

I like your purses Amy!

With the scrap fabric from that dress I posted a few days ago, I made this rose hoodie.

Boho, I lalalalove that dress! I've wanted one like that since I saw a girl wearing one on The Simpsons.

Thanks for the nice comments on my purses.

CriticsDarling, you really whip out your projects, don't you? I don't like cutting out patterns (even my own!), so I procrastinate on that. Once I get to sewing, it usually goes pretty quickly. Rotary cutters and mats have helped me get to cutting faster, and dread it less, than I used to.

Say hello to the copycat, the design is not mine I tryed to copy a dress from Peter Som. I`m a bit of a slow worker, so I`ve worked on it every now and then for some time now. Got som help from my grandmother in the beginning just with the measuresments and stuff.

Pictures with and without the bow, never mind whats written in the pictures, it`s in Norwegian.
