Check the hem of your mas produced tshirt. The hem is not done with a serger, but with another machine called a coverstitch machine that produces 2 parallel lines with a zigzag on the reverse side. You can sort of replicate that with a double needle on you regular sewing machine.

thats the one i was talking about, in spanish we call it gaviadora, i guess some investigation first comes on handy. So a serger would be mroe a like an overlock machine?

Are you all using different brands of thread ?
At a sewing machine shop, someone told me I should always use thread by Güttermann as it's high quality... and perhaps Schmetz (but maybe she was referring to machine needles)

And then I guess are different weights, like upholstery thread for heavier fabrics...
And I was told 100% polyester would be stronger than 100% cotton thread

I normally buy thread cones for most of my sewing but i like Gutermann on light weight fabrics like chiffon or silk, its pricey but it gives better finishing since its 100% polyester. For machine needles, i buy singer for my home machine, they last longer. and for my straight stich one i only buy them at specialty store bc they dont last that much.

Parka (prototype)

This is one of my projects for school, right now its a prototype. I have a critique in 9hrs I hammered in one of the six eyelets the wrong way LMAO. I still need to hem the sleeve, even though they are way to short *sigh*

Worst part is the prototype worth 20% of the semester. Best thing you get 5% for just showing up I just need to worry about getting 7% more so I can pass, with a 60 on this project.

Also I need to finish the sash. I can't find the proper snap for it Plus I have a lot of ironing to do in the next few hours.

^ i know exactly what you mean. im sewing a coat that has a lot of cuts and intricate piping and tons of other projects. heres a technical for what im doing.

Yes, the serger is a home version of the merrow machine which is the industry version of the overlock machine.

Hey hey hey!

Hmm, I've been wondering:
I have several jackets that I have gathered over several years and that adore, and when I say jackets I mean suit blazers, the thing is, over the past few years i've lost a lot of weight and they don't fit anymore and I'm oh-so desperate to wear them!
Is there are humane way of simply editing these jackets to make them slightly tighter?

it depends on the amount of weight you lost. I suggest you take them to the tailor

I second taking it to a tailor. Keep in mind depending on much much weight/size we're talking about, it may be too difficult and/or expensive to have it taken in.

Im beyond happy! I just bought my first sewing machine...one prob thou.. i had to walk from the store to my house with it for like 20 minutes.. i took a break every 5 minutes because its sooo heavy!!! But still... as they say No pain, No gain!!!

wrap-skirt

Has anyone made a wrap skirt?
I'm thinking about the different closures you could use to keep the layers together...

In this photo the front layer has a tie that goes around to the back, where there is a button on the side seam. I think the inside layer also has a button hole which uses the same button on the side seam

^ I love wrap skirts like that.. my mom made a lot growing up in the 70s.. that resemble that one in fact

She also made some really cool halter dresses that are somewhat made like cooking aprons.
