Tyson Beckford’s Girlfriend Says He’s ‘In The Dog House’ For Jerky Comments
by Verena von Pfetten | 3:23 pm, March 29th, 2012

Tyson Beckford made some internet waves earlier this week after he told the U.K.’s Evening Standard that he “created” his girlfriend, 21-year-old Victoria’s Secret model Shanina Shaik. Now Shaik is speaking up and while’s she’s not happy, she certainly isn’t as outraged as the rest of us.
Here’s what Beckford originally said:
“When I found her she was a regular girl. I helped place her with the right people, get her teeth cleaned, her body toned up… Everything changed and now everyone wants a piece of her. I hear people say, ‘You can do better than Tyson.’ I’m like, ‘Really? Really?! I created her!’?”
First, in an interview with Frockwriter, Shaik argued that her male supermodel boyfriend didn’t actually have all that much to do with her success.
To what degree do you think Tyson Beckford may have inadvertently helped your career by virtue of his media profile and the celebrity factor?
I don’t think so. Tyson and I really keep our work separate and every now and then we’ll go to events together. Sometimes we’re just trying to make time together, because I work so much. Sometimes I say ‘You’ve contributed to it’. But everything that I do with my work is separate. And also I never asked him for any help on anything. He just supports me and that’s all I want.
GlobalGrind also caught up with Shaik, who told them exactly how she felt about Beckford’s interview:
“I did not take his comments seriously. He has always supported me. But he did not make me. My mother made me… He’s in the dog house, but I’ll let him out if he’s good.”
Good for her. But if that were us, he’d be in that dog house for good.

Tyson seems like one of those people who is cocky and has no filter... I also think it is really easy for quotes to be taken out of context and reading something is totally different than hearing... he may have said those things laughingly...

He reminds me a bit of John Mayer - another celeb w/ no filter... straight from the head out the mouth....

I am sure Shanina and Tyson have worked it out and are at least as tired of having it rehashed as I am...

It just goes to show you how the media will grab anything and add to their story.......that last statement about Tyson being in the doghouse this wasn't even words from Shanina's mouth but from another celebrity who twittered that comment. So they have obviously conducted an interview with Shanina on how she feels about the comments made by Tyson and at the end decided to make some more drama.......I say leave the girl alone......she's the innocent one here and I think she's probably hurt and embarrassed enough by his comments and too busy at the same time to worry about it being busy with work.Shanina is a great model and she should be acknowledged for her own efforts, beauty and talent. Quite frankly I'm sick of hearing about Tyson's lose lips

Yes I'd rather hear about her in the news for all the work she's done...

Nice to see her pics finally up on the VS website. There's nothing there which hasn't already been posted here. In the actual catalogue (Spring Fashion Vol 3), she only appears once, but it's that gorgeous photo where she's wearing wings, and it's a double page spread no less!

This is the sort of thing I'd like to read more about :

Global Beauty : March 29th 2012 posted by Janelle
Let’s face it, models of color on magazine covers is not something that we see enough of. In spite of the diversity that exists all around us, fashion still has a very homogenous physical ideal. The lack of African-American, Latino, Asian faces on covers and in campaigns is disconcerting to say the least, but every so often a major magazine turns the focus towards an ideal that is more inclusive. The latest issue of Vogue Australia looks to the new faces of global beauty, with the unstoppable Joan Smalls on the cover and rising star Shanina Shaik in the editorial pages.

With her Estee Lauder contract and continued editorial domination, Joan is the perfect representative for fashion’s push towards diversity. Her stellar cover shot by Kai Z Feng is a testament to her posing prowess and she’s also conscious of her role as the leader of a new group of multi-ethnic models who are rising to the top of the heap. Smalls told WWD back in Feb, “It’s nice to show the world that we don’t only have to be one thing or categorized in one box. It’s important to show the world—and fashion—that diversity is beautiful.”

While certain male model boyfriends might be claiming credit for Shanina’s rise to the top, her elegant Vogue shoot by Nicole Bentley shows she doesn’t need any help, she’s a natural in front of the camera. The South Asian beauty hails from Melbourne, but is a mix of Lithuanian, Pakistani and Saudi heritage. Considering that it is even rarer to see South Asian faces in major magazines, Shaik’s success is landmark. When asked by Aussie journalists how she felt about the lack of representation on the runways Shaik had this to say. “It does actually bother me quite a bit. I think there’s so many beautiful mixed and South East Asian girls and sometimes i don’t think we really get the chance to show our potential. People will cast for one certain look. Hopefully that changes.”

Gotta say Joan looks amazing (and is perfect on the cover) but I can't get over how extraordinary and high-fashion Shanina looks in this, her first big ed. Her pose in the "ahead of the curve" title picture is just perfection ! Both eds are so beautiful - the girls should be so proud! Well done Vogue Australia too :)

Yes agree with you all - I enjoy reading about the wonderful work and beauty she is rather than who she is associated with. It's far more exciting - love her first Vogue shoot - good edition.

wow I have missed so much.

Vogue looks really, really, really good :)

and Tyson is a tool. he needs to step in the shadow. its Shanina's turn.

he makes it like Pretty Women  like he got Shanina off the street and made her. I am sure she would be where she is today without him.

I hope I can get my hands on a copy of Vogue today. :D

#48 most viewed, not bad at all. Good to see more people are starting to know who she is.
And your welcome Amazzing :flower:

there was an article i saw in a newspaper yesterday (cant remember which one) but it was about her hitting back at what tyson said about him fixing her teeth etc. It said something bout how they might not be together anymore.

Thanks Helen :flower: I agree about how she's so intriguing and unique and yes, hopefully, it lands her more high profile work.

Read the latest media report out yesterday, but by her tweets, it's tabloid mischief-making yet again. She must be so sick of it.

I can't really believe gossip I read anymore because unfortunately again an interview has came up with my own quotes?? #notkool
