oh sooo margiela current season ....
and sooo berlinrocks two seasons ago ....
:lol::lol:

i'm sorry just laughing all alone.
i like this ....
waist AND shoulders are never emphasized enough - to carry on a Roitfeld quote ....

Saw the title and thought "OH GOD NOOOOO!" - now that I see it it's not that bad. (except for Proenza Schouler's - which is HO-RRI-BLE!) As long as it just makes the shoulder-angle sharper instead of emphesizing the shoudlers all-together its all good :woot:

Such an ugly trend but Costa and Lam (just the jacket on the right) proved this can be molded in ways that look quite new and far from unflattering.
I wish more designers would play this with care and then some wit, I look at Marc Jacobs' looks and it just looks so lazy in idea, like shoulder pads for the sake of shoulder pads and the race to catch a trend.. so boring.

mizrahi did it too...:ermm:

i think it's hideous as well...in sweaters, t- shirts and satin jackets...etc..

:yuk:

but in a structured fitted jacket/blazer, i think a well defined shoulder can look very chic...
but i think that is always the case....
at least imho it is...

i dont like the rounded shoulder look that we been seeing starting from balenciaga seasons back and dont like it here with all the other designers doing it.

though i dont think the suit jackets are that wide and it definitely need some padding to look good. the flat shoulder look is more 40s than 80s with not as much width
i like the suit jackets, im really digging the whole katherine hepburn flat shoulder look lately

I'm surprised there are no pics of f/w Balenciaga in here since that is what Ghesquiere has been doing for awhile and it's highly exaggerated there, but where a lot of designers get their inspiration from. Also a bit of a McQueen and YSL pagoda shoulder in there, which is beautiful.

I agree with softgrey. A pad used in a tailored jacket just pulls the look together. I love those tailored jackets at Marc Jacobs with the hint of a pagoda sleeve. That navy jacket with the sash looks particularly chic, and flattering as well.

However the tops with padding are a bit too Golden Girls for my comfort.

Donna Karan showed some looks with shoulder pads as well.

these aren't the overly exaggerated shoulders of the 80s. i like this look! it looks strong and defined, and definitely wearable. i particularly like the way the derek lam jackets have strong shoulders but then have deconstructed, flowing fronts...great juxtaposition!

i don't think i could stomach shoulder pads... :ermm:

i don't know if the silhouette is just too exaggerated for my taste or if looking at the modern versions brings on flashbacks of bad 80s powersuits :yuk:

they don't look too bad at donna karan though...

I thought so too. I think it's because the jackets are cut with an oversized "boyfriend" proportion so the shoulders aren't the only thing that looks big.

NO, NO, NO, NEVER they were terrible back in the day and are still absolutely awful.

Even as a kid my jackets and shirts had shoulder pads:ninja:, it's just an appalling trend.:yuk:

i'm thinking it might also help that the long hair of the models kind of covers up the big shoulders

kind of takes the attention away and hides them...

Gianfranco Ferré
it's slowly growing on me, it was very welldone here (esp these first two looks)
