Sketches & Illustrations of Fashion Designers

Fabulous thread, sometimes I prefer sketches to the actual clothing, lmao.

I just requested Edith Head's Hollywood from my library, so excited to see all the sketches! :)

Gianfranco Ferre: The former lead designer at Christian Dior would dress Chelsea Clinton in a black organza ball skirt with a black stretch silk body shirt from his youthful Gieffeffe line. This ensemble is about dramatic shape and movement; color would get in the way.

Did you know that when she (Edith Head) first got the job working for Paramount, that she ripped sketches down from the walls of a local art school and said that they were hers?

Haha yeah I've heard a lot about E.H. taking credit for a lot that wasn't necessarily hers (still excited for her book though). Tsk tsk, Edith...

Last week I went to an FIT museum exhibit about exoticism in fashion, both traditional and Western inspired fashions. They had two original illustrations by Leon Bakst for the Ballet Russes on display, and they were amazing to see in person. I wish they allowed photography, because I can't remember which ones they were.

I love this thread! Sketches always have more of a personal feel than the works on photoshop these days

oh yeah spike your pictures won't work up there maybe you could try reloading !?!

Those pictures weren't mine actually, I found them in the Olivier Theyskens thread, but I guess the bandwidth expired.

Oh well. For anyone interested, they could always check back there in a few days.

The pictures I posted are back...thank god, cause they're fantastic.
