Spin's 100 Greatest Albums, 1985-2005

spin is watered down frat boredom

hit me with a shovel but the only choices on that flawed list that in my opinion stand with the all-time greatest LPs [like VU & nico, pet soundsm, rubber soul, stick fingers etc] are:

the smiths
pavement
my bloody valentine
jesus & mary chain

& maybe blur, pulp & guided by voices

obvioulsy taste being so subjective, all of us have 100 OTHER LPs since 1980 that we could list as 100 best since then, but im saying that spin list is VERY flawed, dull, common & over-cooked.

only the smiths, jamc & MBV really can stand with the beatles, stones etc IMO.

I just want them all. But not NWAs straight outta compton, it gave totally wrong direction to the hip hop music !

There are always going to be lists. Whatever, you know?

There's some good albums mixed in with a load of crap in there too....but we all have different taste so I'm trying not to nitpick what the Spin writers say....but its hard...somethings are just..eeh

Ohh hahaha Radiohead yayay
Though I prefer the Bends, but anyhow.

The Prodigy ought to have been on that list. :P

Sorry, but any list including the Strokes is obviously crap, even if they are dead last. Realistically, their artistry ranks somewhere in a sea of thousands.

Agreed -having them over the Libertines? Something isn't right. However I do like the list because it seems to ignore convention and go with whatever they felt like... Unlike Rolling Stones' 500 greatest albums of all time which was sooooo boring. Dylan and the Beatles dominated the top 20. This is a spunky list with a lot of crap. As other people said, it is good to see the Smiths so high up. Long live MORRISSEY!!

And it is really bad that I don't get the appeal of Radiohead and never have done. People talk about them in hallowed whispers...

Why is OK computer number 1? Atleast be original:doh:

The Pavement album is pretty good...kinda lo-fi, dirty sounding indie rock. I probably wouldn't rank it that high though.

And I like Kanye West, but College Dropout even being on the list is a joke. Also very predictable of them to put Jay-Z's "The Blueprint" on the list, completely ignoring "Reasonable Doubt" which is his true masterpiece, he'll even tell you that himself.

You're right, they're nothing but another set of opinions, but for whatever reason people like them, i guess it gives people a chance to discuss their favorite bands :flower: and diss what's overrated, and if you do like them (i admit id do) you'll find a whole collection of the stupid things at acclaimedmusic:

I agree with The Strokes thing..i could name heaps of other artists more worthy to be on that list then them (The Verve, Ed Harcourt, Spiritualized, Idlewild)
What's up with Moby's album being higher than Grace? And pretty much every third album is hip hop. Good choices with My Bloody Valentine and Jesus & Mary Chain though  I know its only a list though...
