Steven Meisel - Photographer

^^ I like the use of shapes, but the poses are awkward and not aesthetically pleasing. :ninja: The colors are great though. The idea could have been taken further though. :flower:

I love the YSL ads from 2001. :crush:
The US Vogue editorial is boring. I like the use of shapes and colours, but the poses and facial expressions are just too awkward.

I constantly go back to that f/w 01 YSL campaign as a favorite of mine.

It's so simple, really uncomplicated. No sweeping graphics, no overriding theme, no over the top airbrushing, just beautiful coloring, striking poses and flawless light/shadow.

The shot of Liliana and the guy in profile is stunning, as is the shot of Liya in the purple top.

Anyone have the pics he did with Amber Valetta...it was a Grey-Gardens inspired shoot in 99 for Vogue Italia?

I know what you're talking about I think.I believe it was in the issue with the cover of multiple shots of Amber in the green dress.

I'd love to see that edit too.

it seems as though the vogue italia eds are shot all over!? i love when they use elaborate locations for very simple shoots!:woot:

Truly, I love the elaborate location shoots too ,not a big fan of the studio shoots though.

His studio is in NYC, but he shoots in LA and on location often.

What are your favorite editorials of his?

I have his work practically embedded in my memory ,so I'll be as specific as possible.

"Life" Hannelore as a housewife
"Be My Baby" a 50's greaser theme ,with Lisa Cant ,Caroline Winberg, etc.
"Clubbing" Nightblub with Karen ,Jessica, Elise
"Mother Nature" Lily Cole, Jessica, and one other girl
"Cinema Stills"
"Madame"
"Hollywood"
"Melancholy Baby"
'Little Rich Girl"
"No Esta Noche Darling"
One with Kristina Chrastekova, can't remember the name of it but it was b+w photos of her and the title on the cover was "simply poetic"
'Neverland"
There's more, I need to look them up again. You can find most of these on his page on art+commerce.com

What are your favorite editorials of his?

There are so many that I can hardly recall right now.. One vote goes to 'Killer Vogue' featuring Karen Elson, Julia S., Elise, Missy and etc. in Vogue IT 0905. I also love his simple studio shoots in Vogue IT.
