I read his interview in 032c. It was
super interesting considering he's so illusive. And although I really want his interview, theres no way I'm not going to pay $30 though for 4 pages of information!!
But, heres a little recap for those interested; please excuse the poor language!
But he basically reiterates the same information on how he started; at Parsons sketching, how he was shot supermodels a la paparazzi when he was 14 (?) etc etc.
He says that a lot of the time, his images get refused publication; even in Vogue Italia. He says how "State of Emergency" went a little too far and that was one of the times a great deal of photos were refused publication.
He says his shoots for US Vogue take 1-2 days and his shoots for Vogue Italia take 2-3 days. Adding that Franca allows him a great deal of freedom and that a lot of his ideas for photoshoots have been rejected.
He says he shoots in Los Angeles a lot because it offers a great deal more locations than New York. Adding that although his shoots are greatly cinematic, he could never be a director.
He says he draws a lot of inspiration from Fellini's 8 1/2 and that he watches it all the time. And that he loves Antonioni and "Blow-Up".
He says that the exhibition that was curated in 2004 was done with his disapproval and that most of the images chosen were ones he utterly disliked.
He says he doesn't keep his photos on display or reflects on them but has recently started to do so because he heard a therapist say that it is important to surround yourself with images of people you know.
He says he leaves all the editing and photoshopping to assistants and that he works with a large entourage, adding that he doesn't really know why.
He says glamour is gone and that now fashion is more about t-shirts and jeans, H&M and attention grabbing.
He says something like "how can I relate to a 16 year old girl who doesn't speak a word of English?".
He also admits that he is a diva!
