Steven Meisel - Photographer

^ Mariah was so a lovely girl at that time. I was reminded of her Daydream pics, also taken by Meisel ^_^

Love that Mariah's spread! I'm with you Kanna, I was suddenly reminded too of her Daydream pictures. Those were the days.. ^_^

Oh wow, those Mariah pics are lovely. Great to see them.

I agree with you! the dreamday pictures were so great. nice to see that editorial!

I think I've never seen Mariah looked more divine than on those shots from US Vogue. He really knows how to capture the best out of everybody.

Meisel delivers great work again...i just wish he would pick some beautiful models and not those ugly ducks...only Daphne is cute, the others are so scary looking...and they look scary in person as well, especially this Kristina girl...

I think that the models were picked because they are edgy looking ... it works very well with this whole concept. I can't imagine classically pretty models in this ... it would take away something, I think and it would not have the impact.

It's not about the models (it should not ever be about the models) ... it's about the overall look of the editorial ... and I think it's brilliant.

^ I agree with you. look at lindsey's profile shot, what makes it so amazing is her edgy look. the cast was perfect for that editorial.

i gree with Rado in the edtorial the model look ugly in special Kristina Salinovic

oh my, I had no idea our comments can make headlines these days;))lol...I am still behind my words, but Andrea, my Dear, I do agree Daphne is gorgeous...and you know how much I am into models and for me those editorials are about the models and Steven Meisel always loved the models...he gets inspired by models...the photographers are mostly into the models and not the clothes...the clothes are just a part of the job, but the real inspiration comes from the people on the photo...and sometimes I just do not get it how picks so many girls I do not like...sometimes they start to row on me, but most of the time they are a fading one issue of It vogue sensation...Italian Vogue is the right space for edgy editorials and some models can be in Vogue only there...on those 1 time edgy shoots by Meisel who somehow manages to make them look interesting. Another "problem" is the styling of the most mail editorials of It Vogue these days...even as one of the greatest Gisele fans, I did not like the December editorial with Gisele.

Here's the applicable part of the article, that tarsha linked to at fashionologie.com , above ... just don't want to loose it when they take it down:

>> Franca Sozzani recently explained why Steven Meisel has shot every Vogue Italia cover since 1988:

"I needed to have a consistent, recognizable look to every cover. My idea was that even if you took the word “Italia” off, you know what Vogue Italia is. Many magazines don’t seem to have a connection between one cover and the next, and it becomes hard to tell them apart." ....... [Models.com]

I have heard this said of another Editor (Anna Wintour) from her own staff ... that certain photographers are chosen because they want a consistent look .... the editor knows what to expect.

Of course, that makes it difficult if Meisel wants to change his style ...... but then, I"m sure he's paid plenty to keep his style consistent and probably doesn't mind that much.
