Take a Seat : Chairs

14curr_chair.jpg

Fashion trends are usually a year or two ahead of those in home furnishings, but this year is different: metallics are big, and to mark the 50th anniversary of Eero Saarinen’s Tulip collection of furniture — the classic pedestal chairs and tables — Knoll is offering them in platinum. All Tulip furniture ordered between now and Aug. 1, 2008, in any color (white, black or platinum) will have a commemorative medallion on the underside. The Tulip armchair, above, is $1,093. For locations: (866) 945- 6655 or knoll.com.

i  the tulip chairs, i want them sooooo badly! i hope my louis ghost chairs didn't hear me say that :innocent:

we just bought an apartment where the previous owners had 4 or 5 of the louis ghost chairs in different rooms.....incredible....

i even had the nerve to ask if they'd consider leaving them behind....:innocent:

I think I'm the one person in the world against the Ghost series. They are both attractive and clever at the same time, but I feel like everyone has them. They just aren't as interesting when they've been everywhere. I love Starck, but he's so mainstream. However, this newer chair from him is beautiful. It's called "Miss Lacy". It even reminds me of Tord Boontje, which makes it even better!

ilaughead that chair is so cool!! :woot:

to look at..

looks a bit uncomfortable...
and all i can think of are the marks/impressions that would be left on the back of someone's thighs if they were wearing shorts or a short skirt

:heart:"Miss Lacy".:heart: it's tdf, he made her to Driade!!!

u're not the only one that is against the Ghost chairs, I love them, they are very cool specially because they match with everything, but they are everywhere now, even at Habitat, which BTW is Area. He made them in 2001 but people only found them in 2004 and since then every store has them, they came in every magazine and this entire marketing make people tiered of them. They are smart and intelligent chair, he reinvents the Louis XV in a brilliant way, and I just don’t like the ones with the faces in the back.
It appends the same with Panton chair, they were in every place, magazine, store and now every time I get in to the kitchen and look at my Pantos chair and I think “ I must give them away”… which is quite sad!!!

The Tulip chairs by Saarinen and the '7' series by Jacobsen are so cool, generally most mid-century design is excellent. And I adore the Lounge chair by the Eameses, it looks and must be so so comfortable.

My ultimate dream though is to own the La Chaise also by Charles & Ray Eames, it looks like a sculpture :ninja:

I have these "La Marie" by Philippe Starck in orange. I got them back in 2004.
I still think, in all it's simplicity and lightness, it's a sexy beauty! :brows:

Does anyone here study sculpture / industrial design ?
It would be cool to make one of those

I have read for, for example, some chairs by Marcel Wanders
which are made with crocheted doilies
(I'm assuming cotton)
they are finished with resin, which hardens the doilies and you are then able to sit on them or eat off of them in case of tables

How cool

We need a thread about this :judge:

And I saw some work by Gaetano Pesce (introduction thanks to BerlinRocks)
and he has some work like lamps and chairs
and they are using unusual and fragile materials such as paper and thread
but they are made very strong somehow
