Tatler July 2024 : The Princess of Wales by Hannah Uzor

Missed opportunity to commission Jonathan Yeo for this cover portrait

It is a beautiful portrait of someone else. It would work for an art gallery but on a cover it would make better sense to have an image that looks like her.

The print edition has 144 pages, no supplement this month. The cover is part of Tatler's ongoing series of commissioning work from a range of Commonwealth artists, and there's also a feature with Hannah Uzor inside.

There's a typically hyper-glam fashion editorial, "Haute in the City", shot by Daniel Sachon, styled by Sophie Pera, with model Lily Jean Harvey.

Plus an interview with Lynn Barber, who's been working in the media/journalism since the 70s, and a look at what The Royal Shakespeare Company is doing at the moment. Politics is covered with an interview with Treasury Chief Secretary Laura Trott, and there's a brief glance at Chanel in Manchester.

Given that Tatler has been going for a very long time, it spent many years as an illustrated publication, in which case having artwork on the cover would fit nicely with its heritage.

But individual pieces of art... are subjective.
