Have any CANADIANS bought off net-a-porter or mycatwalk (or other overseas companies)? I want to order tons of stuff EXCEPT last time i bought something from australia, they charged $100 (in taxes through customs) on my $200 pair of jeans. RIDICULOUS! Does anyone know how to get around this???? Thanks in advance.

Well, Canada is notorious for the customs. I have once sent 3 books to a friend and she got charged for customs when the declared value is USD 80. Unless N-A-P is willing to declare a lower value, there's nothing you can do about it. Or you can ask someone in US to receive it for you.

I had my Dior shoes shipped to my uncle in the States, and he didn't have to pay any taxes at all! I bought them off LVR though.. don't know if you'll be as lucky with NAP.

I've ordered a few things from the United States, and I have never paid any custom fees. Just recentley I ordered my Alexander McQueen scarf from the New York store and I didn't get charged for customs either. I suppose it depends on the item and the origin of the shipper. I would contact N-A-P before ordering just to be safe.

Hi guys,

I contacted someone in Wisconsin that is willing to have it shipped to HIS address, and then send it (in a different package?) to my Vancouver address. He still thinks that I will be bombarded with custom fees with its arrival.

N-A-P is a European company isn't it? I contacted them and they responded saying (obviously) that they'll have to adhere to the rules and indicate the value on the envelope, which I know will ensue of me having paying lots of taxes. Ugh.

I really really want these items I'm looking at!! Tsubi jeans (from mycatwalk), Marc Jacobs bag and Sass and Bide jeans (from NAP).

I welcome any suggestions...

Why don't you just get them from Holt's who carry all of those items? I understand what it's like but you have to remember a couple of thigns. First of all, it does depend on who processes it at customs. I have been charged for things before that I shouldn't have and not charged for things I should have. Second of all, on all UK purchases it will include VAT (value added tax) which you can claim back (and would prob. cover any customs fees). Third of all, it's prob. best to order off the US NAP site. And lastly, I would like to reiterate again, it's easier to just order it from Holt's or TNT blu, or some other boutique. I'm sure there are tons of places in Van. that carry those brands.

In Vancouver, Tsubi is exclusively carried ONLY at Richard Kidd, who sells the lean beans for $450 CDN; they also only had 2 pairs in stock the last couple of months and they're a 6 which doesn't fit me.

Same goes for Sass and Bides. Exclusive at 2 stores.

Holt is horrible for jeans. Is the US NAP website just net-a-porter.com? Thanks.

oh really? Thats really surprising to hear. I thought last time i was in Canada I saw them at Toronto. That is the only thing I hated about shopping in Canada, they always jack up price b/c of import duties. Since you live in Van. I would probably call around in Seattle and get them shipped from there since it's easier to return them if you have an issue. yes, it's just net-a-porter.com and just make sure at the top your settings are US

I never buy designer things here. Its soo expensive.. I saw a pair of Diesel jeans for $425 (before tax!) at Holts.. and the end of season sales suck too, they only discount certain pieces.

If he sends it back to you by regular mail and claims that it is a gift for you, you will not pay any duty fees. ;)

There is a cap of I think 500 USD of what can be claimed as a gift so he would have to mark it as being worth under 500 and if it is over 500 and something happens to it you won't get the full insurance back.

^ No kidding, NEVER buy jeans from Holt's I bought J Brands for 270 CAD and they cost 160US on websites. Holt's is really really ridiculous on things they only carry but so oblivious to other stores prices. Diesels for 420 is insane.

For shipping, customs are pretty expensive so find stores that are free shipping to canada to balance out the customs. I just bought Imitation jeans (for 195US) and in the end with customs and taxes = 220 CAD which is pretty damn good considering no one in western canada has them. (free shipping)
I would suggest:
activeendeavors.com
revolveclothing.com (I think shipping is free- email them)

baldy, I'm really surprised the only store in Vancouver that has Tsubis is Richard Kidd...really strange. We have them in Edmonton for about 300 CAD. You call around or call Tsubi.

Revolve is good with No duties ever and they also have free shipping. OT but Victoria's Secret has somewhat High taxes but you don't pay duties at the door.

I hate Canadian customs. I ordered Ron Herman stuff from their Malibu store, and customs decided to slap on $50 customes on top of Fed-ex's $100 shipping (which was souposed to be $10). The sales people at Ron Herman will tell you exactly what you wanna hear, anything to get you to order from them. Fake b*tches.

I'm surprised Ron herman would ship to you in Canada. When I ordered sweats from them they told me they don't ship internationally. You must have ordered a decent amount of stuff as you usually don't pay customs on orders under $250 or so I think.....

The store had no problem letting me order from them, but with the total shipping+customes, I can say 100% it was not worth ordering from them and I advise any fellow Canadians do NOT order from Ron Herman's Malibu store, the sales girl lies when she says she dosen't know how much shipping will be to Canada, when she knew how much Fed-ex would be charging me. I did NOT know this, she told me $8US($10CAN). And of course when I got my stuff I called them and left them a f*ck you type message on their answering machine about their rip off shipping, of their they listening to it and never got back to me.

Anyways, the total shipping was like $150CAN, it's water in the river now, and I LOVE Ron Herman's stuff, it's so LA. love it! With time passing, you forget the price and love your stuff.
Any future Ron Herman stuff I will be buying from TNT Blu in Yorkville, they always have it in stock it seems.

they must have changed their policy since previously they wouldn't ship outside the US. Nor would they ship to the non-billing address. I think buying from TNT is just the easiest to be honest. I was lucky since i had a friend who bought the stuff for me and shipped it onwards so it kept it down

Americans get the eay way to way EVERYTHING, like everything is overpriced here in Canada, like Ron Herman sweats should be $100CAN (cuz their $86US), but TNT has no problem charging them for $150CAN, like what the f*ck?

The main reason why one must buy their Life Nature Love from TNT (or the dreaded Malibu store by mail) is because eBay's Ron Herman is f*cking FAKE. I HATE IT.
I know it's fake, those piece of sh*t counterfeit factories have to ruin a perfectly good brand for everyone, why??
eBay is good for finding stuff when the item 1st becomes hot and sold out in stores, thats the only time when eBay stuff is real. THEN these assholes at the fake clothing factories find pics of celebs wearing designer stuff, they make fake versions, and pawn them off on eBay to unsuspecting buyers. People, wake up and smell the couture.
