Teach me your language I teach you mine

K, that's what I thought, thanks for clearing it up.

So for reference, if I want to say, "I sang in the choir last year", I would say:

"Yo cantaba en el coro el ano pasado"?

Yes. Only remember that the "n" in "ano" has a ~ on top and it's pronounce like the "gn" in "lasagna". I don't know how to type it.

LOL, yup, I don't know how to either, that's why I didn't. My teacher gave me a list with how to type all of the special symbols, but I lost it.

Nope, that's latin... :p

It means in french "supporte et abstiens-toi" and I think we could say that it's practically the opposite to the famous "carpe diem"...;)

thank you sooo much. i've read that in a book about Nicolas Poussin (french/italian painter from XVIIh century) and there was no translation and this is a very important point in his "philosophy" (neostoïcism)
thank you sooo much. i was so lazy to check in greek dictionary but if it's latin...i feel stupid!
thanx again!

^ No prob! :p :D

Poussin...:shifty:...am I right sensing a DaVinciCode-influence? :D

I put only the beginning, that would be a good start!!!!!:)^_^

Here's my quick translation (I also made a coupla corrections in the italian text, shown in bold into the quote above) ;)

The man from Piedmont, the only liberal State of Italy, got mad: "But, Prince, the Senate is the Reign's high chamber! In it the best politicians of our country, chosen by our King's wisdom, examine, debate, approve or reject the laws that the government or the senators themselves brought up for the progress of the country; it works at the same time as spur and bridle, encouraging to do good and not to do too much. When you will have accepted to take part in it, you will represent Sicily just like the elected senators, and you will make them hear the voice of this beautiful land of yours, which is now facing the modern world, with all its problems to be solved and all its needs to be taken care of..."
Chevailly would have perhaps continued on this tone for much longer, if Bendico, from behind the door, hadn't asked to "the King's wisdom" to be admitted...

;)

Tomorrow i want to start trying REALLY hard with my french learning, i really dont want to get a C...and i hate it even more the teacher says it to me as though im stupid and says it as though its good...

what can i do to make my french better? start from the beginning, learn the vocab or tenses etc? :(

^ Try perhaps with songs' lyrics, that's a good exercise...;)

Just find some french songs, google the lyrics, print 'em, translate them using a dictionary (through Google you may even find sites that already contain translations to the original lyrics) and then practice listening/singing 'em...it will be of great help in learning the correct pronunciation, and - depending on the songs you chose - also a more informal, real language, than that used by those small books with "useful phrases" for tourists...;)

ok :woot: Pashen'ka your brilliant
will french vogues be good to read? i have plenty :p

good advices, and you can also..when you're watching a movie put french subtitles, or watch it in french with english subtitles!! I improved my english like that!!!

and, thank you so much Pashen'ka for the translation :) :) :)...I guess the mistakes in the Italian text were typos, because I wrote it myself from the text!!!
btw, you're so lucky to speak those languages that good!!!!!!!

no Da Vinci Code.. this book is just pure "imagination"!!! I am an Art Historian, dude!
but the picture you choose (even if it wasn't a Poussin! but a painting based on Poussin's Et in Arcadia...) was def. a good choice!
I read this in a Jacques Thuillier's book (specialiste de la peinture du XVIIe siècle). No Dan Brown in my library:doh:
