Here is the translation I'm going for:
To the world, the United States is known as a utopia. When my best friend went to Scotland, she told me that her friends didn’t want to stay. All wanted to move to the US. Why? Well, there are no opportunities there. They wanted to finish their studies at college in Scotland and find a job here. So, clearly, other people of the world want to come. Although the citizens know that America is a mix of people, some don’t believe. The people of the world like to eat. We try all types of food: Mexican, German, Italian, and Hawaiian. What is the difference between the food and the people that prepare the food in their native country? We want to be cultural. But, some people are not tolerant. I don’t think that America receives more immigrants than other countries but it is a [??? can’t remember] that many people move here. We receive different people that speak in languages we recognize or not. The flow of people will not stop soon. Everyone is aware of the Holocaust. We despise the genocide against Jews by Hitler. But, why do we still judge when there are different people in our schools and work? Where is the tolerance?
My mother feels pride. She used to tell me that as a foreigner, she confronted racism and negative attitudes. Much of it is from speaking in English. I would know it! The English language is difficult. But, my dad says that English is an international language. There isn’t a need to learn different language. But, when a person wants to overcome and learn English, we accept them. There is a lot of work when one moves to another country and tries to understand the culture. Maybe it is because we are scared. Clearly we like the change. Instead, we want everyone to act like Americans. Even though there isn’t a definition of America, we have an idea of Amerians. An American is a person from here. There are mixes of cultures, countries, languages, foods and traditions, but there isn’t an example of the Perfect American.
There is a song called “Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist Sometimes.” From the song, I found that the stereotypes help us. At a restaurant, I use a stereotype when I need to find a waiter: the apron, the notepad, the tray. Also, there are negative stereotypes. A stereotype that is true is that the prisoners in jail are black. So, people are prone to distinguish criminals as black. But all cultures have negative aspects. We notice the negatives. We enjoy superiority. The sore thumb receives taunting and mockery. It is high school all over again! When a student is different, it is easy to tease them. We want to feel like the best. But, that way is the same as the attitude of leaders that practice genocide. “We are the best and those that aren’t like us, get rid of them.” We don’t have the opportunity to learn if we remove a part of our society. It is not a crime if a person was born elsewhere. It is ignorance.
When new people move into the neighborhood, we welcome them. But, let’s say that there is a party en the garden with farm animals. They are types of rituals but because we haven’t seen it, it appears weird. Maybe the ways of Americas are weird too. But, the different way is not the weird way. That doesn’t mean it is wrong either. We shouldn’t be scared when we are confronted with different things.
America is important to the world because we pride the fact that we are where the rest of the world wants to be. That signifies that people are coming. So, there will be mixes of people at your work, your school, your mall, your restaurants and your movies. To the extreme, there are groups of people with views of hatred. These people will not learn that the choices of race and the color of skin are not chosen. Imagine… peanut butter was discovered by a black man named George Washington Carver. Basically, we don’t accept other cultures we don’t understand. We are able to understand when we are open. To the world, we are different too. The situation is the same for both sides. The people build a wall that doesn’t allow different influences. But, a change of scenery helps us. We don’t grow up in the same house, the same school, the same friends, and the same TV shows. We shouldn’t protect ourselves from things that can change us.
