In a bizarre confluence of my own personal interests (fashion and basketball - odd, i know) i present a CHALLENGE to the expert minds and the tasteful opinion makers at The Fashion Spot.

Pictured above is Team USA who are competing over the next two weeks in the Basketball World Championships (FIBA) in Japan.

(picture from Yahoo Sports)

The blazer look was "designed" by the team's managing director Jerry Collangelo. His day job is as the GM of the NBA's Phoenix Suns. I'm thinking he should stick to that. They wanted to present a different, more "respectable" look than most people are used to seeing NBA players in. Gone are the doo-rags and oversize sweats and throwback jerseys (*this for public appearances only, their game uniforms are really great, that's not the problem). But this look reminds me of when my mom took me and my brother school shopping at "Robert Hall". Or they're getting ready for a ceremony down at the local chapter of the Elks Lodge! just horrible.

:innocent:

anyway...what great menswear designers, preferably American, would you recommend to the team? They are also going to be playing in the 2008 Olympics in Bejing, so I am hoping we can figure out a better look for them by that time.

Please post pictures of looks from style.com or other sources that you think TEAM USA would rock in. Have fun.

B)

FYI - players in the above picture are from L to R (front row): Kirk Hinrich, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Shane Battier, Chris Paul and Joe Johnson. (back row): Antwan Jamison, Dwight Howard, Brad Miller, Chris Bosh, Elton Brand.

EDIT: Moderators: I posted this in this forum cause i thought it was relevant to Designers and Collections. If you think it should be moved elsewhere, that's ok. thanks!

No Marbury? What's the deal? Does he suck? I haven't followed basketball in ages...

Put'em all in Thom Browne!!! Just kidding.

I think a smart black suit by Calvin Klein or Giorgio Armani would be the best, no? Out of the two Calvin is the American (although I don't know whether the menswear designer is American now), so that might work.

And make sure you take their Escalades away, too! :p

if they put Marbury in they won't need anyone else in the team....he's gonna score every single point by himself

Calvin or LAuren would be good. Subdued and more respectable of the men's designers.

since it's team USA, an american designer label would be most appropriate, like rangerrick already said, perhaps calvin klein wouldn't be a bad choice. like the following from fw06
