from rock radio

Mick Jagger and stars call for an end to Darfur genocide

Mick Jagger, Dire Straits leader Mark Knopfler, and Elton John and his partner David Furnish have joined the call to stop the genocide in Darfur. Sunday (April 29th) marked the fourth anniversary of the start of the bloodshed in the African nation, and protests were staged in London and elsewhere to call for action against the Sudanese government, which has so far done nothing to end the situation. The rock icons were joined in the movement by Bob Geldof and actors including Don Cheadle, George Clooney, Mia Farrow, Hugh Grant, and Thandie Newton.

Knopfler is one of several stars featured in pictures holding an hourglass filled with blood, then smashing the timepiece on the ground, to symbolize the time that's past and the blood that's been spilled in the conflict, which is estimated to have cost 200,000 lives and counting.
