The 2008 Summer Olympics : Beijing, China

The german weightlifter who won gold after losing his wife last year made me cry  How he had her photo at the medal ceremony, and he was looking up as they were playing the anthem...

^Beyond touching, especially because she was saving up so she could travel with him to the games  Surely she's extremely proud of how he did

That sounds like a touching story!

AND YAY FOR BEACH VOLLEYBALL! They so deserve it! I wonder if I can find a new photo for my icon of them!

Athlete Mom rising star in her own right....

How about Mrs. Debbie "DP" Phelps having her own fashion line. lol
she won't be designing but she'll be the model for a clothing line - that's the word.
^_^

I just saw a replay of that then.. So sad..

when you're born in one country and raised in another..
what country would you be competing for ? :ermm:

I think you compete for the country you're a citizen of?

That was a really sad yet touching moment. I have such admiration and respect for the athletes at these Games that overcome such adversity and hardship to achieve their goals.

My heart also broke for the US relay teams. I couldn't believe that both the men and women stuffed up the baton change on the very last leg!  It was surprising how so many of the men's teams made error on the baton change.

I really need to stop jinxing my favourites! First Asafa Powell and now Phillips Idowu, I'm devastated he didn't get the gold. :(

eeeeee! gold medal showdown between Canada and Sweden in equestrian jumping! it's amazing how the olympics can make you excited for sports you were never interested in in the first place :D that's the magic of it, i guess!

Oh my god! I'm so angry about Walter Spearmon being disqualified because he stepped on the line! Not even over it!!! I know its a rule but I run the 200m and I've done that and I'm sure people in the lanes next to me have stepped on my line, it doesn't really matter unless you actually hit someone or cross completely over. But its a rule so I guess that's it :(

i felt soooo bad for him because he was so happy, and celebrating with Usain Bolt and then he realises he didn't win.

CANADA GETS GOLD :D

I really wanted Brazil to get gold in womens soccer but they just lost to the U.S. I fell in love with that team during the olympics, those women are amazing players! Marta and Christiane especially :(

CANADA!

I don't think that Canada has ever done this well in equestrian jumping before. I know that Ian Millar had been to nine olympics and this was his first silver medal in the team jumping!! :buzz:

Athletes can choose as long as a country's NOC is willing to field them. Britain's 400 metre Gold winner nearly chose to run for Nigeria because Britain had given her a lifetime ban.

so sad :(

When he fell on the landing of his second vault attempt, three-time world champion Marian Dragulescu of Romania did not only lose a medal; his hopes faded for his sick daughter.
Dragulescu said before leaving for Beijing that he was determined to win gold for his three-years-old daughter, Beatrice, who could not hear or speak.
He badly needed the bonus promised by Romanian authorities to gold medalists; he had to pay for his daughter's surgery in Austria.
Dragulescu had gold in sight, with a first vault attempt that gave him the highest score of all finalists. But it was the fall on the floor on his second attempt that erased his chance to a medal. He finished fourth.
Dragulescu confessed to daily "Evenimentul Zilei" that his "soul broke" when he landed.

Poor Phillips,I think he cried,or he looked like he did. I just saw him on the news. But there's always London for him to win and dazzle us with great hair and new piercings :)
