The 90s Comeback

i love the 90s.
it's good to be influenced and not to copy, since too much of the 90s will just be.. the 90s. haha that didn't make any sense!

^totally makes sense. its like other eras, they come back but they do not come exactly in the way they were. i can see the influence on the runways but it can never be exactly the sames as in the 90s. that would just be copying. good thing though that there is lots of 90s clothes on fleamarkets and vintage shops for us to get the authentic look. ;)

Imagine that early 2000's are coming sooner than you think. Just think about all those lovely platform shoes and fake leather pants. ewwwwwww... I think 90s is at least a bit more tolerable fashion era. Some very nice and simple fashions evolved then as well as grunge..

^^ when I think of mainstream 90's fashion, I think of leather pants and platforms! I think of all the ugly clothes I loved as a child ^_^
I like grunge personally but as a fashion trend I find it boring and overdone.
I wouldn't mind a little 90's minimalism comeback but I'm just not ready for it to be all over the streets again...

This thread is so interesting. I didn't think there was much to 90's fashion but a lot of what people are mentioning seems familiar. For the early 90s I was a child and wore leggings and sweatshirts Or legging and large tees. The leggings were often a colorful horizontal stripe that matched the top and the top had a screen print embellished with ribbon or buttons of a cat or a girl or something. And usually I had a scrunchie that coordinated too. Also I loved Laura Ashley dresses and romper things. And Esprit was my favorite brand which I called "sprit" pronouncing the "T". :lol: Then Limited too was the store from like 3rd to 5th grade and my friends and I would shop all the time for matching waffle henley shirts, sweatshirts with plaid block lettering, flannel button-downs to wear not over a t-shirt but buttoned up with jeans.

Then in 6th grade the 70's were back and I bought flared jeans and wore spaghetti tanks over coordinating tees. Jeans also had racer stripes down the side. Then I started shopping at goodwill and thrift stores or one-of-a-kind things. I think that was inspired by my older brother who was very "punkish" and never bought mall stuff. After that it's hard to describe because it's when I began to try to find personal style and would be all in black and sleek one day, completely prepped out in J.crew the next, and like a wannabe hipster the third.:lol:

I do remember my older brother was distinctly grunge in the earlier part and punk in the later part of the 90s.

can you and I get together and just ban all this 80s --> 90s nostalgia already! :yuk: it was tacky then + remains so. thank god for grunge that wiped all that bad holdover 80s style off the map (you know what I mean, plenty of examples in this thread!)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO the 90's NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
Even worse than the 80's!!!

but grunge started at the very start of the 90s...:huh:

aww watching old friends episodes makes me want the 90s haha , those little skater skirts Rachel wore very miumiu esque !

I dind't liked too much 90's fashion I was a kid anyways but I see the pics and ..no no no
but well as all comebacks it's not exactly the same it will be interesting see the same things changed and improved

90's makes me think of stirrup pants and big sweaters.

Please no.

I can do the 1990s. I loathe the 1980s. I can recall a lot about the 1990s. Here are some:

* chunky heel shoes and boots
* school girl mary janes
* showing some midriff/belly (more on this later)
* cropped tops for ladies
* flared jeans, some with huge flares
* Keds were popular among many ladies as a casual shoe
* most message shirts were more along the lines of "Whatever," "Love," just the complete opposite today. Most message T-shirts are usually hateful and mean. For example: "I'd rather be alone than to be with you," "boys are stupid... throw rocks at them," and "I'm not in a bad mood, I just don't like you." Believe it or not, most men's message T-shirts are even worse than most ladies' tops.
* Mickey and Minnie Mouse clothing (not real big on cartoon characters)
* clothing featuring almost any other cartoon character
* skorts (usually a pair of shorts with a wrap front to mimic a skirt. WILDLY popular with most ladies, but banned in some schools like one school I went to)
* flowers in fashion garments

I at least remember mid-late 1990s. If you're talking about the early 1990s with some of the hip-hop themed clothing of then, then I'm probably sure that I'm not sure if I'd want to see this revived. I noted the showing of the belly. I think this was a result of when Britney Spears wasn't the embarassing whacko she was, when Christina Aguilera's delicious body was showcased (especially her almost perfect belly), showing of the navel, and that sort of thing. One time on the last days of my 8th Grade life, two friends of mine dressed identically. One of those days (the two ladies are named Carmelita and Angela, by the way), the two worn these black button-down shirts with flower designs on them, white jeans, and white Keds-style sneakers. Carmelita was more of a full-figured curvy lady. Both of them had their shirts unbuttoned up to where their navels can be displayed from their shirts. We usually wear uniforms, but this was a day we could wear whatever we wanted. The two ladies dressed the same way, only with a white button-down shirt with flowery patterns.

The 1990s I take away is one in which girls weren't like "boys are stupid." Perhaps even a time of more modest and more lovely style than today's tucking jeans into boots, wearing leggings under skirts, and bull:censored: like that. What's happened? The 1990s was about love. But ladies nowadays wearing and talking about hating guys. I'm not big on rock music, but one of my favorite rock songs from the 1990s was "Smells like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. I even liked "Black Hole Sun" from Soundgarden. I even liked "Tubthumping" by the floundering rock group Chumbawamba(?). I agree... we're still in the 1980s with fashion. Looking like a prick obviously is still more prevalent than looking like (at least) 1990s material.

Oh, and one last thing I've loved about the 1990s in fashion: the naughty school girl look. Wearing a dressy shirt under a blouse was a nice trend during the 1990s. Cute and innocent among ladies. I'll take the school girl look opposed to "'80s chic" or "rockstar girl" any day of the week.

I think the shool girl look works only if you are under...lets say 23 ish
Other than that I think it should stay in schools and pornos :lol:
It's been done to death..

so dresses with doc martens will make a comeback? I wore that combination to death back in the 90s. :D

Pick your favorite 90s clothes (there are also 2000 - 2007 ones, just change the year in the '1999' url):

Is there something you want to come back???

Btw: The 1990 till 1992 collages will be improved in the future (I want them to look similar to the others), but it's difficult to find good pictures with quite realistic/daily fashion from those days.

On the 1993 till 1999 ones, spring/summer fashion is on the left and autumn/winter fashion is on the right.

One thing that excites me about 90's style is that i think my natural hair is very early 90's

I love overalls. But I can't find them anywhere. I know there's no way I can wear them in public, but I used to love wearing them as a kid.
