The Americans

^so glad you've been bewitched by the series. i'd suggest very seriously getting the first season on dvd or something because it's worth it. best show for me alongside the walking dead.

^ I've already watched the first season via Amazon Prime.:flower:

I streamed it after seeing "Comrades" and "The Colonel" (in that order) on FX. Those two episodes piqued my interest, but I knew I was hooked by the end of the pilot. ^_^

I finally finished season 1! I'm terribly slow at actually getting to watch tv shows but when I do, I can finish a season pretty fast. Now I'm really shocked there was no recognition. The plot and concept is so engrossing, definitely my type of show. I can't wait to see season 2, I know it is over half the season in.

Did Paige really discover anything in the laundry room? It didn't seem like it.

she found their disguises in the suitcase. she knows there's a secret life happening with them which is why i think she's kind of acting out this season.

but i think you'll enjoy season 2 even more...it's been even more exhilaratingly nuanced than season 1. aside of the paige storyline of course, there's a lot of psychological ups and downs philip is dealing with.

only four more episodes though with tomorrow's episode left this season. bummed that we will have to wait another year.

what's strange about that is margo wasn't even that present in the second season as she was the debut. i love margo but that should have gone to annet mahendru who plays nina. truly riveted by her performance this season. even holly taylor who plays paige i was entranced with. really disappointing all-round....keri and matthew were each deserving of at least a nomination in the lead categories as was the show overall for best drama.

I'm disappointed in the nominations as well, while I didn't see the second season yet. I expected way more nominations for the actors.

worst emmy snubs by EW...the "EWwy Awards".....how great of them to feature this ;)

Best Drama Series
The Americans
In an '80s-set Cold War spy drama, issues of good and bad, right and wrong, should be pretty black-and-white, but The Americans has us seeing red. Anchored by masterful performances from EWwy nominees Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell, the series never flinches when it comes to intrigue, emotion, suspense, sex, or—as we will never fail to mention—wigged-out goodness. —Lanford Beard

Best Actor
Matthew Rhys, The Americans
Look no farther than Philip Jennings' explosive reaction to the news his teen daughter donated her life savings to the church. Like a drip that builds to a deluge, it shows the range of Matthew Rhys' ability. Perhaps scariest of all, whatever questionable (or downright wrong) things Philip does, Rhys' charm and textured performance make us relate, even sympathize. —Lanford Beard

Best Actress
Keri Russell, The Americans
Elizabeth Jennings is the ice queen at the heart of FX's Cold War drama. The undercover Russian spy and partner of Philip (Matthew Rhys), Elizabeth stops at nothing—from seduction to flat-out murder—for the sake of her country. But Keri Russell's performance has a way of pulling against that brutality and, especially through Elizabeth's relationship with her daughter Paige (Holly Taylor), revealing a brittle, human side underneath. That she does it all in ridiculous '80s wigs is just window dressing. —Jackson McHenry

melissa mcbride is on here too for supporting actress.

new season starts in a couple weeks!!! i am really excited from the promos and i love that paige will become more of a central character in the plot this season....i couldn't imagine being told to get your daughter part of the programme. to have to fight that conflict of duty for your country but wanting to protect family and your daughter's innocence....

also really curious to see what becomes of nina because i was so riveted by her last season.

needless to say looks like we might be in for the best season to come!!

yay!! the season 3 first look is making me so excited. I have to say, like I said before though, that I am NOT here for Paige becoming a major character. god I can't stand her.

Paige was raised as an American and I think she should stay that way.

i dunno i kind of feel like she's not like so many of the characters i see in other shows...like there's something mature about her yet still has that kid way about her as well. very curious but incredibly smart. in a way kind of similar to how carl on the walking dead has become such a part of that narrative...a kid with kid tendencies sort of being forced to grow up. for me the point of the show is that these agents are living this double life as this all-american family unit so it seems logical that the kids sort of become a component of that too. also i can see the attraction to paige being american....she can play that role much easier.

I hate I'm so far behind! I have only seen the first season, it is so good and underrated. I can't wait to have time to catch up!

great start to the new season...definitely laid out the groundwork for what's to come. the conflict between elizabeth and phillip regarding paige's role is going to be a big part of the season it seems. nice to see frank lengella guest starring. hopefully we find out what happens to nina soon.

that kama sutra scene though...I love the curveballs this show throws, all the 80's references (anyone else suspect she wears Vanderbilt jeans?), the props, the music, etc.
