The Brunette Hair Thread

She has such lovely hair... Mine on the other hand is dead looking. :(

Ok, so I went light brown last week, but it has already faded a lot! I went back today and complained. The hairdresser wasn't nice at all, she was saying I was the one that asked for such light colour. I did asked for a light brown and it was perfect when freshly died but I didn't want it to fade to a dirty brassy blonde after the first wash. I even remember telling her that I went to a salon this time to dye it, because when I do it at home it fades almost instantly! She was just trying to blame me all the time . But I didn't give in so now she agreed going to do it again for free. I'm not going to get a brushing afterwards, but that doesn't matter. I just want a nice light-medium brown shade that's going to last:(.

Ediewho, beautiful colour! I wish my hair would look so shiny and healthy!

whippie, what issues do you have with your hair? we could probably figure something out :flower:

ediewho, lookin' good!

abrillovesyou, i would describe Natalie Portman's hair as light neutral brown. i tend to think of her as warm toned because of her eyes and the light tan she sometimes has.

FleurDeLys, i'm assuming she didn't use a filler before dying? if you have bleached your hair before, it can make it harder for the dye to stay. but filler would make it very permanent...harder to go back to lighter hair later on but not impossible of course. when i dyed my light blonde hair to medium blonde with no filler, it faded gradually within a month...not in a week so that's definitely weird to me too. i'm sorry your hairdresser was a bz, i hope it turns out how you like after you go back in ^_^

I have no idea, but she just put on the dye, didn't do anything before that...
She said something about volumes? She said she used volume 10...:ermm:. And that volume 10 fades. But that was just what I didn't want of course.
Sorry, I don't know a lot about dye .
I've never bleached my hair before, i'm a natural blonde, with a lot of natural highlights from the sun.
Oh, and the colour she used on me was 7. I'm now hesitating whether I should ask for a redye in 7, or something darker.

^ since your hair is natural, it's probably not super porous(sometimes bleached hair has holes that hold dye better but not necessarily evenly/in a pretty way).

volume 10 sounds about right for you. since you were blonde only going light brown, it's not a huge change. the higher the volume the more hydrogen peroxide to open up the hair shaft to soak up the color. level 7 color sounds dark enough as well. it just might have to do with the brand of dyes they are using. when i did light to medium blonde, i think staying on one month is not bad considering my hair was completely bleached, it still faded pretty. i have friends and family who have gone to other salons to dye their darker and it fades way faster than one month so i understand your frustration.

you should definitely have a chat with her when you are there next time before she starts mixing colors for you. i don't know if her plan is to redye with the same color to saturate more or go a little darker hoping it will stay on more. like even if its 'too dark at first', it may fade nicer and not back to blonde so quickly. that's why i hate it whenever i darkened my hair. it always turns out darker than what i want but that usually fades to the 'ideal color' and in turn it lasts longer.

thanks lots!!! I did really need a fix on my hair for months now...

LaCapristoI miss a bit the blond effect since now i see it quite dark... its a bit shocking hahah... but my hairdresser told me it will fade with washes so ill get some highlights... but we'll see. So far I'm happy im back to have some shine over my before kinda opaque hair

FleurDeLys... I hate when hairdressers just cant admit they made a mistake or simply dont do what u actually asked for... cause since you are a naturally blond all that kissablekae fab said she should have know it... and explained to you to find out what color really you were asking for... (once i had my hair superbleached and to get some brunnete was kinda impossible cause it was like any color was rejected by my hair so i had to try and try until i got some color back...but the hairdressers told me that they were unsure about the results since my hair was on those conditions so i knew what to expect which was pretty fair)
(dont die it at home) try another hairdresser (if this one seems really hard to talk clear with) and let's hope you get better results... surely you can! keep us updated! :)

So, I went back in yesterday and this time she gave me a 6, a shade darker than the 7. She still used volume 10 because she said that more volume is only used for people who have already some grey hair to cover up, which I don't have. She did say that apparently my hair releases colour very easily and that this shade will fade too but the result should be the lighter brown shade I had when she first dyed it. She wasn't friendly and let her help do it, but I was glad because the help was so much more friendly and understood completely that I wasn't satisfied with the first dye job. She even started brushing my hair, although my hairdresser had said that she would only give me the dye job and that's it. But when the hairdresser saw this she gave the girl a warning. So my hair was dyed and partly brushed . Anyway, I'm glad I didn't have to pay, and that the help was so nice to me^^.

Before (when I was still a blonde, I don't have pictures from the 'in-between')

I'm very curious and also a little afraid for tomorrow, when I'm going to wash my hair for the first time..

it looks good fleur! i'm glad you went back. the hairdresser was a b*tch and she deserved it. i know it doesn't feel good to be there and deal with her attitude but it's better than walking around with hair you didn't ask for! good thing the help was nice, i'm sure they understood. i can't believe she didn't allow hair brushing  she so stubborn it's silly. the hairdresser failed to see it from your p.o.v.

sometimes the whole customer service aspect gets lost in some hair salons. they aren't trying to keep their clients at all. * shakes head * well that's when she will lose customers.

FleurDeLys your hair looks Absolutely STUNNING!! :flower::woot:
I really hope after the washing the color stays there!!! Glad the help girl was more friendly and you got want you really paid for in the first place!!

Thanks a lot girls!
I'm very happy with the result myself. I've washed it and it has faded maybe the tiniest bit but nothing really noticeable. There's hope :woot:.
I like being a brunette, it gives a bit more colour, more of a contrast . I'm wearing more makeup now though, especially eyepencil and blush. I feel like I can experiment more! With blonde hair, I had to be careful not to overdo my makeup. Now I have more options .

^ i'm going through the opposite with my hair right now since i'm going lighter . i love it though, i'm lazy when it comes to makeup, keepin' it simple. ironically last time i was blonde i used to experiment a lot with eye makeup, just because i was into it at the time ^_^.

I had the awesome idea today to cut and bleach my hair to be as authentic as possible for my Margot Tenenbaum costume . . . LOL what a horrible idea. Tomorrow this is getting fixed. I can't even take my hat off ahahahah. I love Jaquelyn Jablonski's hair, it's pretty much my natural color and what I'm going back to pronto!

^ DandyWarhol, that's an awesome costume! i like JJ's hair too ^_^ good luck with your hair!

I'm thinking of going brunette. Its just hard to remove the black hair dye and recolor it brown without it turning back to black again!!
