I have to say I'm in two minds about these recent Linda covers (including the US Vogue group cover). On the one hand I'm happy to see Linda and her incredible body of work being celebrated and on the other hand, each of these covers remind me that the glory days of fashion (and these women) are indeed over.
It can be nostalgic to read the names Linda, Naomi (who's remained omnipresent for decades), Christy, Cindy etc. but every time I see the results, I'm left feeling slightly melancholy for days gone by. If I take my nostalgia glasses off, this cover is fine, high contrast black and white always works, particularly for older subjects and she does look good. If it weren't for Linda's name in the thread title, it wouldn't really warrant a comment from me, but it is Linda and like all of you, I'm always happy to see her, even if it serves as a reminder that times (and standards) have changed.
I can't remember which member said it in another thread, but it seems when fashion is all out of ideas, they parade the supermodels out to remind us of better times while inadvertently reminding us that fashion sure isn't what it used to be.
