The Eyebrow Thread, all you need to know and ask about your arches

my beautician is great-she charges literally nothing (although i've gotta admit she gives me a discount, which is why it's cheaper) and she gives me perfectly shaped arches.

Keeping my eyebrows up is really important to me. I naturally have kind of thick eyebrows. If I don't pluck, they become two monsters sitting on my face! lol :) Archy arches do not look right on my face either. Mine are not too thin but are more like medium thinness. Not super thin, but thin enough to look just right for my face without being thick. I cannot stand bushy eyebrows or people who way overpluck and/or have huge gaps taken out of the tops of their eyebrows. I dont know it just bothers me. It makes me just want to fix them myself! ;) but of course I never say anything bc it's not my place unles its a dear friend who has no idea what she has done to herself. And sometimes... I pluck a couple of strays from my husbands beautiful eyebrows. He has an unbelievably natural, beautiful arch.. which he attributes to being irish. So sometimes I cant help it and I pluck a few strays. I do not however, like perfectly sculpted eyebrows on men either...it takes away some of the ruggedness which attracts me in the first place~

here's a pic of me at the airport and as u can see, I have quite tiny eyebrows. I've often wondered if I should try to make them look fuller; what do you guys think? are they too thin and should I colour them a bit or are they OK as it is?

 please don't laugh at the pic; I know I look quit stupid in it

originally from ? ;)

I was born in Los Angeles, CA moved to Walnut, CA great up out there graduated from Rowland High School in 96, Moved to Long Beach Ca where I went to college (CSULB) moved back to Los Angeles, now I live in Beverly Hills, CA.

Where are you from? (if you don't mind me asking)....:D

I use to have full shaped eyebrows but sort of lost control and went crazy with the tweezers. Now im going through the growing out stage. I found that i've never really been able to find a suitable shaped brow for my face. I have a Circular/Square shape face and at the moment a flat Jessica Alba like eyebrow. What kind of shapes usually suit my face type? (Im half filipino half English!) And does anyone know how to change the direction of hair growth? One of my eyebrow hairs are starting to grow downward. Is there anything i can do to stop this for happening?

Any help appreciated.

kimba: i'm half filipini and caucasian too! and i have a round/square shaped face :) i'm not sure about what shape you should try, but i have thick browks and a nice arch. kinda like beyonce's, but not exactly. as far as having weird hairs, i tweezed too much inbetween my eyes and are letting them grow back and they're going in weird directions too. you just have to trim them so they don't stick out of the shape of you brows. but not too short. and if you have a problem, try filling them in with browzing from benefit or something else.

ugh, i have a full on brow disaster....im letting them grow back to 100% to start fresh. im waiting impatiently.

lizzyb831 you are gorgeous !!
And you have the eyebrowse to die for. I'm letting my ones grow
cause I want them to look just like urs :flower:

Thanks Golden! I like my eyebrows and won't let anyone touch them. lol. i've thought about going to waxers, but I would be scared that they take out something i don't want them to

If you are ever caught without an eyebrow pencil..a graphite pencil will do just fine!-that is if you have dark/black hair...i'm pretty sure its not too unhealthy because when you draw you usually end up rubbing it into your skin anyways...it actually does a pretty nice job!

Ouch!

I think the best way is to get a referral from someone you trust and then discuss exactly what you want before anything is done. I have a great eyebrow guy, he's a genius and it's always fun to see him.

i have been really anal about brows ever since i learned how to pluck in high school. good brows are important! mine used to be very thin when i was younger but i am glad i have grown them out a little. thing that's annoying though is that they are naturally very arched. i wish they were a bit lower.

mine are naturally very arched too.
when i was growing up, i was embarrassed by the arch - thought i looked like Spocky
so a couple of times i shaved the top off!
oh dear.

i must tweeze every single morning before i go out the door. must.
right now, i've made a mistake in that i've overtweezed and my brows look too thin.
too thin and i look harsh, freaky and older (reminds me of 'Monica' in Friends, towards the end.... she just looked harsh in the end).
..... ...... so i'm trying to grow them out a bit.

btw: you can definitely have them professionally waxed or shaped by threading, in a salon. i've never had it done (yet) though.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quick Question-

My eyebrows are uneven (never EVER pluck your eyebrows if you are not a pro!:ninja: ) and I was wondering how I could make them perfect. One of my eyebrows is arched higher than the other, and the other eyebrow doesn't start at the right spot. It is a mess:D . I don't want to shave or color in my eyebrows-I hate the drawn on look and it doesn't look natural to me. But I don't want to grow them out and look like Eddy Munster! Besides, I can't stand my brows being hairy :yuk: . I'm in a pickle-My messed up brows make my face very uneven. What should I do?????

I think it's ok to pluck your eyebrows even if you're not a pro...as long as you have a steady hand and aren't trying to do MAJOR resculpting. My eyebrows have a good, natural shape, and all I do is pluck some of the strays. B)

I would suggest perhaps going to a salon? Make sure you get plenty of recs first however, as I have seen people come out of salons with their brows butchered...it's worse than a bad haircut, because on a rare occasion, some people's brows don't grow back!

Does anyone else here thread? I'm Indian, so as someone mentioned before, we're all very into the whole eyebrow thing, and especially into threading. I've been doing it for 5 years now (well not me, but at a local salon) since I was 15/16 so I'm used to the pain now (which isn't THAT bad). I've tried waxing once and it grew back fine but I didn't like how the shape turned out compared to how the shape is when I thread it. Like the arch wasn't as angled as I would have liked it, and she made it thinner than usual and I HATE HATE HATE thin eyebrows, so I went back to threading after that experience. As for plucking? I HATE it because it kills, I can't do it right, and it grows back in two days making it pointless.

Threading is great and it makes your face look clean/beautiful for the first two/three weeks or so, but I admit that after a few weeks when it's just about time for you to get it done again, it looks SO gross. I've tried plucking in between that last week where your brows are hideous, but it just makes it worse for me since I can't pluck right. My stupid question is, is it possible to go get your brows threaded (or even waxed?) even though there's not much hair there? I've been thinking about going every 2 1/2 weeks versus every 4 weeks, but I've been told that you can't go that often because there won't be much hair to remove. Is that true?

Oh, but the place I go to charges only 4 bucks, so for 4 bucks every month, I guess it's worth having to suffer that final week.

What do one use to fill in those empty areas of the brow ? :flower:
