The Eyebrow Thread, all you need to know and ask about your arches

Thanks-

miserylovescompany-Thanks for the advice! I'm just going to look like Eddie Munster for 4 weeks and then get them done at a salon. I just there was a eyebrow guru where I lived! :(

Sonia-This threading stuff sounds interesting! Is this something that a person can only get done at Indian salon or can they get done anywhere? Can you describe what threading consist of??? I watch a lot of those Indian movies and I love the arch of the eyebrows that Indian starlets have and I would love to have that look tooo!

I don't really have an arch, more of a curve and I don't really like it. Can you create an arch that looks natural and if so, how do you do it?

thanks!

Alfie- I've only been to Indian salons here in Toronto, but a lot of my friends also get it done at Middle Eastern salons as well. I'm sure you won't be able to get it done at those "american" places, but I know here for me, there's tons of small random shops in downtown that do it.

As for threading, it costs me like 4 bucks (and upperlips cost 2). Basically, you sit there, while they have a piece of thread that "cuts" your hair out. They usually put an end of the thread in their mouth, and move it along with their mouth/hands. It sounds weird, but it works. But I should warn you, threading isn't exactly the most painless experience. It KILLS for the first few times for sure. I've been threading since I was 15, so about 6 years now, and I'm used to it. I just went and did it yesterday, and if I have time later, I'll take a picture and post how well the arch turns out.

Hi! Could you guys recommend any Indian salons in downtown toronto? I'd like to try threading as well :D

Gerard Street East ("Little India") has like 45038 salons that thread for you for cheap. Honestly, it doesn't matter where you get it done because they all end up doing the same job. I get mine done in Mississauga, so if you want to go there, I'll give you the place I go in Mississauga where it's 4 bucks threading for your eyebrows and 2 bucks for threading your upper lips.

And in case you're not sure, Gerrard Street is around Coxwell Ave, Greenwood Ave and Main Street. I think there's this place called 'Pooja Boutique" on those streets.

Ohh, also, I found these two in Etobicoke. I've never been there, but if it's close, go there. Or call ahead and ask for their prices.

My eyebrows lack definition...I don't know what shape suits me...is there any easy/fool-proof home eyebrow shaping kit? Oh and I'm a boy so I don't think the high arches would look good on me ::P:

I think I want to get mine waxed or shaped, but I kind of need to know what is a normal price for such a procedure.

I called the salon where I had gotten my hair cut a few years ago, and they say they do them for $30, so with that, plus tax, plus a tip, I probably wouldn't get out of there under $45, and I don't know...It seems like kind of a lot.

Also, how badly does it hurt? Because I'm actually thinking of wimping out before I have even set up an appointment.

AYLI if you have sensitive skin I do not recommend you get yours waxed..I had mine waxed once..and it did not agree with my pores at all..I broke out in every single pore..and it took the skin 2 weeks to heal. And it hurt..but it was over quickly.

I get mine shaped w. tweezers, so the pain is pro-longed..but nothing you couldn't handle :p It's usually worse the first time you have your brows done..and then it gets easier..I do my own up-keep..and 1-2 twice a year I get them done professionally..because I end up being lazy and under-tweeze.

I think that for 30$ it should incl. a colouring (but you don't seem to need that) so maybe you could get it cheaper..or negotiate a price with a combined hair-cut ?

Ok i have a problem i recently dyed my dark brown hair a nice natural blond but i have really dark brows and it does not look good at all what can i do???

well ive tried looking for eyebrow dye but no one in canada has it u have to go to a salon to get it done and im not up to going there every 2 weeks hehe i sound so lazy...

I have to tell you that you shouldn't dye your eyebrows yourself...you could potentially blind yourself, that's why people are advised not to do their own eyebrows.

my friend L is an absolute thin-eyebrow obsessive, its not even funny. it's not even the first thing she looks for, its before that. she notices them before she even notices there's someone there. lol
i was really happy with mine when we became friends (naturally thick, plucked for a bit of shape, suited me really well), but after more and more of her influence, they've got thinner and thinner. nothing against her, of course, it was something i was trying out.. but now i've realised what i really like is longer, quite thick, but not bushy thick, eyebrows, so now i'm growing mine out a bit. it's definitely not the best look, so i'm happy with L's present of a RIMMEL eyebrow pencil, apart from the fact that it fades a lot over about an hour.

I first got mine done when i was 12,My eyebrows used to be really bushy,my mom would always go on at me to get them done, but i never had the guts then 1 day i just went.I first had them done at a professional beauty place, where she waxed, then plucked and shaped them, then i just kept plucking after that, somtimes going inbetween to get them waxed again.

I used to hate plucking cus it hurt, and i tried shaving.I thought it was great at the time cus it got rid of all the hairs, untill i went to get them waxed..... when i was told i shaved them all out of shape. So of course she had to try and shape them again but there was little gaps where i had shaved them, but they've grown back now :D i would like them a bit more shaped in the middle tho, kinda go up a little bit if u get me.

SO i advise everyone... Don't EVER shave your eyebrows!!! it totally ruins them

I bought the eyebrow kit from Sephora and I have no darn clue how to use the brow stencils.

I cant seem to trace the stencils because they're too small.

Anyone have a clue on how to use the stencils in an effective way?
