The First Fashion Show You Watched

One of the first was Dior Haute Couture Fall Winter 2004, I saw the review and pictures of it in a newspaper and I wanted to watch it so badly and Dior had uploaded it on their website.. it still remains one of my all-time favourite shows.

This was the first show I had ever seen, too. I had been watching MTV's "Making of the Music Video" of Gwen Stefani's first solo single "What You Waiting For?" and in the special she was talking about how she was wearing Dior Haute Couture by John Galliano. I had never seen clothes like that before and I was completely astounded. I went online and searched Dior and wound up on the website, watched the show video, and my life completely changed on that day. It opened my eyes to a world of imagination, glamour, excess and creativity. It was incredible.

For me it was this image that immediately urged me to find out everything there was to know about what ever it was I was looking at. Which led me to dior.com and the video of the F/W 03.04 couture show and I was completely blown away. I remember everything about that day. From the looped music that played on the "choose your language" page at dior.com, to where I was sitting and the perfume my mother was wearing. Right then and there I knew this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It still remains my favourite fashion show ever and represents a lot of very strong life defining emotions for me. The moment I saw that image and the show video over 11 years ago changed the entire course of my life, for which I am eternally grateful.

It might not have actually been the first one, but it's the one I most remember from my fashion beginnings - Dolce&Gabbana Fall/Winter 2007. I still watch it when I'm down, it gives me instant high.

i even still have some pieces which were in my personal order from the collection...

i used to wear this with a very wide blk patent contoured belt w. large oval gold buckle and blk suede joan and david pumps with a patent toe and 3" stacked cone heel...
all gold chunky jewelry too, of course...
most of my jewelry was anne klein...

those were the days...

One of my earliest and most distinct memories as far as full fashion shows are concerned would have to be the Dior Fall 2001 Haute Couture show. I can still remember hearing the incredible music (which the crappy video on YouTube doesn't do justice to) and being hooked. Then the models wearing those "Barbie goes to Tibet" looks came stomping out and and I was ruined for life because god knows so few fashion shows can live up to that standard.

I know for a fact this wasn't actually the first fashion show I ever watched, as back in the day many of the New York shows were shown on a local TV station and I would be glued to my TV after school watching them, but Dior is the first one that really left a mark.

Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2008. I had learned about Richard Prince's "Nurse" paintings from Sonic Youth, who used one of the paintings as a cover for their album Sonic Nurse. And I knew that Marc Jacobs and Sonic Youth were friends, so it was kind of like many of my interests fell into place with this show. I was just so amused and astounded by how extravagant and wild it was, with the pumping Daft Punk soundtrack and the wacky Spongebob-esque color palette. This dress on Vlada, in particular, has always stuck out to me as being so hilariously crazy and over-the-top:

This show really opened my eyes to how subversive and out-there fashion can be. I've been hooked ever since.

I watched Thierry Mugler and YSL shows with my mom from Fashion TV in the 90's. I was a child then, maybe 7 or 8... But I do remember some of that Mugler stuff and how my mom thought his shows were such a specialty that she even invited us kids to watch them with her.

First one I remember watching online by myself was Dior fall 2002 haute couture... The internet videos were crappy back then and the connection was slow, but still that show made me visit dior.com too often. Galliano's debut collection for Dior was the one that got me interested in fashion, but that one I had seen in one of my mom's old Vogue magazines.

It definitely was a magical period. His work for Dior was so extreme and I think that's part of why those shows and collections left such lasting impressions on many of us. He really pushed his creativity beyond the limits of convention, taste, wearability, beauty, etc. It was the first time I had ever seen anything so provocative. And maybe this is my own personal opinion, but I think another draw to those Galliano/Dior collections was that they were so positive and energetic and fun and naïve in a certain sense in addition to the unbridled imagination. Unlike McQueen, for example (who also was impactful to a young me) who's showmanship and creativity was always much more pessimistic and tortured, Galliano's work during that era just always felt like a party. A party I would have done anything to be a part of! Haha

Its kind of sad that i have to remeber shows from 10 years ago to feel things i havent feel for the last 5 years while seeing a fashion show...

That said, my first fashion show was Balenciaga fw 2006...i think is one of the best shows done in fashionon on the last 50 years.

Even if i watched fashion shows at Tv when i was a child (Alaia, Montana, Versace...etc.), the first show that really strucked me was Chanel Haute Couture FW 1993. I was 11 i think and can still remember myself being strucked by how sexy & approachable those girls looked. The clothes were beautiful and very sexy but they flat boots on. Just gorgeous. It is still one of my favorite show of all times.

The first show i went to was YSL RTW FW 2001. Good times.

For me the first Fashion Show that i stumbled with was Versace spring 2008, i was only a teenager, didn't know anything about fashion but i got immediately obsessed.
Not in terms of clothes, but in terms of putting a proper runway show this might be my favorite still, everything seems to be in it's right place from the music, to the finale and the change of colors of dresses along with the music. everything perfect

Does the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show count? That was my first show back in 2006, I fell in love with the idea that these beautiful girls were walking to some amazing music. The first actual fashion show I did watch was D&G men's FW 2006/7 show.

I'd say my first show was Versace Spring Summer 2005, I used to watch all those shows just because of the music, then I saw Natasha Poly and fell in love with her and fashion.
