the Gap hires a new designer...

I washed my hands of The Gap long ago. The clothes that looked well on me weren't durable at all and had a few months of life at most. And the ones that were durable were made of some kind of heavy fabric that would tend to bunch in all the wrong places and look terrible.

Meanwhile, I've watched their price point creep up to where it's now about half the price point of a similar something at APC. And for me, one sharp-looking pair of APC khakis is better than two unremarkable and unflattering pairs from the Gap. I don't foresee any major changes to this situation with their new designer, but I'll wait and see.

I agree you can't mass market something like the Dior Homme look on an "in every mall" scale, but I think you can do so with something like the sleek, minimal-with-a-Euro-twist basics that APC offers. If Gap starts turning out something of similar appeal and quality, I'll give it a second look, but for now they are off my radar.

^I agree that Gap prices are creeping up and that their quality doesn't even come close to APC. However, I like the fact that APC still has a certain amount of exclusivity and I wouldn't want it to be mass marketed on the level that Gap is on.
